AS SOUTHERN PARKWAY IS RENAMED ‘BALL AHMED TINUBU WAY’
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, for his visionary and inspirational leadership in the FCT.
The President presented the award on Tuesday in Abuja during the commissioning of the Southern Parkway road project, which was renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way by the FCT administration.
The President, who described the FCT Minister as the team leader, said the revolutionary changes he has made in the FCT, both structural and administrative, are yielding positive results and improving the lives of many Nigerians.
He therefore thanked the Minister for his sincere commitment to shared values and for giving hope to Nigerians.
The President said: “Thank you for giving us this hope and for your sincere commitment to shared values. Well done. As a team leader, you have worked hard and tirelessly. I must acknowledge his vision which is revolutionary and very inspiring to many of our people.”
The changes you have made to the FCT, structure, and administration are showing results and making the hearts of many Nigerians beat faster. Thank you very much”.
Furthermore, the President commended the FCT Minister for ensuring the completion of the Southern Parkway which he described as a transformative project that connects vital areas within the FCT.
He said the completion of the Southern Parkway symbolises the collective aspiration for connectivity, ease of livelihood, accessibility, and progress.
President Tinubu added that the road project will not only reduce traffic congestion but also improve the mobility of FCT residents and visitors, thanking the FCT Minister for naming the Southern Parkway after him.
In his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barrister Wike, disclosed that the Southern Parkway contract was awarded to Setraco Ltd in 2010 with a contract value of 16.2 billion and was later revised to 35.7 billion due to changes in scope and other economic indicators.

Wike added that the Southern Parkway which stretches from Christian Centre to Circular 1 consists of two main carriageways each with four lanes and two secondary carriageways each with two lanes making a total of 12 lanes, in addition to other associated underground engineering infrastructure facilities.
He said the successful completion of the multi-year Southern Parkway will enable access and connectivity to the southern flank of the city as outlined in the Abuja Master Plan.
He added that the completion of the project will also complement the developed portions of the Northern Parkway, thereby easing traffic congestion in the southern districts of Garki, Gudu, and Durumi and bringing better socio-economic benefits to residents of the FCT and other Nigerians.
Bar. Wike, who further explained that the current FCT administration was faced with many incomplete projects when it assumed office which have now been completed in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, thanked the President for his unwavering support.
Also, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the President, members of the National Assembly, and the people of the FCT including religious and traditional rulers for their invaluable support to the FCT administration.
Dr. Mahmoud also expressed his appreciation to the FCT Minister and other officials of the FCT administration whose commitment and hard work ensured the successful completion of the FCT projects.
