The APC Concerned Resident Stakeholders of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Bwari Area Council on Tuesday decried exclusion from all political appointments by the Federal Capital Administration.
Speaking at a press conference in Kubwa a satellite town in the FCT. The residents said their non inclusion to political appointments in the capital territory is a concerned issue that requires urgent attention, saying this has made non indigenous inhabitants to be relegated as second class citizens since inception of democracy in Nigeria.
The community said, “We gather here today to address issue concern appointment in the FCT. The non inclusion of residents in political appointments in Bwari Area Council and FCT has become a reoccurring issue that demand attention and action.
The Federal Capital Administration like other states is responsible for delivering essential services to its residents. However, the consistent exclusion of residents from political appointments had led to a disconnect between FCA and community itself”.
“We should be given our dues. The quantum tax that we pay to area council every year is multiple of millions. If by nominating Nyesom Wike to be minister FCT that is to pass a message that entity belong to all Nigerians. Therefore, our demand have a justification that we should be treated fairly and equally. Paying attention to our request and demand I see that justice and fairness are prevailed. Give those that are indigene their dues but don’t deny those of us who residents their own dues because we are equal stakeholders in the FCT”.
“When we are talking about inclusivity of residents, we are talking about other than original inhabitants of the FCT being part and parcel of the government in the FCT. Our situation we are trying to address is that other residents who are indigene should be included in the government that is what we are talking about. We should be part and parcel of this government because we contributing, so that is exactly why this event is happening today. No city in the world is built by indigene alone, it is by those who come from other places and FCT is microsome of Nigeria, it is a melting point of other cultures and tribes”
The community, therefore, demanded “Hon Minister ensures the inclusion of residents in all political appointments. Most especially in Bwari Area Council”
“We call for transparency and accountability in the appointment process”
“We urge the Hon. Minister of the federal capital territory to engage with residents and involve them in decision-making processes”.
The APC Resident Stakeholders include: the different ethnic nationalities across the six geopolitical zones of the country who are residing in the FCT.
