The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a physical altercation between one of its officers and a passenger over the steering wheel of a vehicle.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed ordered the probe in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO) Olusegun Ogungbemide on Saturday in Abuja following the circulation of the video on social media and mainstream media outlets.

The video alleged that one of the FRSC officials was involved in a physical altercation with a passenger behind the wheel, in connection with the seizure of the vehicle of a detained traffic offender.

Mohammed expressed his disappointment and concern for the incident and ensured that the Corps will take the allegation seriously and ensure combat rules are followed.

He instructed the commander of the sector under whose operational jurisdiction occurred the incident to conduct an exhaustive investigation and submit the report to the national headquarters within 48 hours.

However, he promised to take disciplinary action against the agent if he is found guilty and reiterated his commitment to an excellent service, road safety and high standards of behavior among his personnel.

According to him, the Corps will take the charge seriously, as an in-depth investigation was launched to establish the circumstances of the incident.

“According to the preliminary research report presented, the incident occurred on Aug. 23 on Asaba Ogwashi-ukwu road in the general area of operations of the Asaba Sector Command.

“The vehicle, a Toyota Sienna bus, was stopped by the patrol for the necessary checks, after which the driver was found guilty of driving a commercial vehicle without a speed limiter installed, resulting in the seizure of the vehicle.”

“During an attempt at apprehension, the woman who struggled behind the wheel with the driver, who was only passenger in the vehicle, refused to leave for the officer who stopped her to sit ahead, according to the rules. for vehicle seizure.”

“To be clear, the public must note that the Corps continue to ensure that the Rules of Engagement remain inviolable, regardless of whether the woman has acted dangerously that he could have resulted in an accident.”

“And if they are found guilty, the employees involved will face disciplinary actions according to our zero tolerance policy for misconduct.”

The Corps Marshal, however, called on the public to report any case of non-professional misconduct or conduct by FRSC personnel through the FRSC mobile app or by calling 122.
