The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Shehu Mohammed has urged Nigerians to embrace safety ideals, sustain positive driving behaviour, avoid negative ones, and adhere to all traffic rules and regulations.
Mohammed made this call in a statement by Assistant Field Marshal (ACM) and Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO) Olusegun Ogungbemide in Abuja on Monday.
He said the appeal is part of efforts to ensure free movement and safety of life and property of road users during the 64th Independence Day celebrations.
The FRSC Corps Marshal also emphasized the need for an accident-free celebration.
“The FRSC is aware of the importance that the country attaches to its independence given the series of celebrations that are part of the celebrations and is fully alongside the citizens at this historic moment,” he said.
The FRSC chief urged motorists to take all precautionary measures to achieve an accident-free Independence celebration.
However, it ensured the full implementation of operational facilities in traffic risk areas and other areas to ensure the smooth movement of people and goods.
“To avoid incidents on the road, I have asked captains across the country to ensure full deployment of personnel.
“This also includes logistics for high visibility and rapid clearance of obstacles, as well as effective traffic management,” he said.
Mohammed urged drivers to use the FRSC toll-free number 122 and the FRSC mobile app to respond quickly in the event of an accident, disability or emergency.
However, he wished the entire country a peaceful and safe celebration.
