The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, conducted an inspection of ongoing road construction projects in the Bwari and Kwali Area Councils of the FCT.

The projects reviewed included the rehabilitation of the 5-kilometer Dutse/Usuma Dam road, the upgrading of the War College/Army Checkpoint road and other internal roads within the Bwari Area Council, the 25-kilometer Kwaita/Yebu road reconstruction, and the 11-kilometer Yangoji-Sukuku-Ebo road in the Kwali Area Council.

Speaking to journalists after the site visits, Barr. Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of the road projects. He reiterated his confidence in the contractors’ ability to complete the projects by the December 2024 deadline. He assured that adequate funding would be provided to ensure the timely completion of the works.

“These roads, especially in rural communities, are significant for boosting agriculture and enhancing food security in the FCT,” the Minister said.

What amazes me is the length and impact of these roads. For instance, the stretch from Kwaita to Yangoji-Sukuku is truly remarkable. The Renewed Hope Agenda is not just a promise—it is becoming a reality. The quality of work in these rural areas is impressive. Despite the heavy rains earlier in the year, the contractors have assured us of December completion, and I have faith in their commitment.

The Minister highlighted the importance of the roads in supporting farming activities in the surrounding areas, emphasizing the government’s focus on leveraging the agricultural potential of these regions to address food security.

*”When you see vast lands for farming like this, it shows the potential we have to achieve food security. Projects like these will unlock opportunities for rural farmers and improve their access to markets,”* Barr. Wike said.

The Minister explained that his routine visits to project sites are part of his strategy to directly assess progress rather than relying solely on official reports. He dispelled fears of possible delays, stating:
“I’ve personally spoken to the contractors, and they’ve reassured me of meeting the December deadline. With the favorable weather conditions, I see no reason to doubt them. We will ensure our part—particularly funding—is not an obstacle.

“Barr. Wike acknowledged that resolving all the challenges in the FCT would take time but reiterated his administration’s resolve to ensure that every part of the FCT feels the impact of the current government’s policies and programs.

“We may not solve all problems at once, but we are committed to making a difference in every corner of the FCT. These projects are just the beginning of what we aim to achieve.
