In a view to having rapid growth and development in Nigerian society through education sector, the ”Teachers Aid Foundation” (TAF), in collaboration with Kings College British American Institute and the British American Open University of California, held recognition award ceremony in Abuja to honour some distinguished personalities who have contributed positively to the teaching profession.
The award presentation which was organised to honour many nigerians with the ”Nigerian Advocates of Education Awards” was part of TAF commitment to improving the quality of education in the country.
Speaking with newsmen on the significance of the ceremony, Dr. Stephen Osadebe, President of the Teachers Aid Foundation, said the program was part of the event to commemorate with the teachers on their yearly day celebration.
He explained that the organization decided to appreciate those who have helped and aided teaching profession which is in line with the TAF’s aims and objective.
He therefore revealed that the process of selecting the award recipients were strictly based on their dedication to promoting educational development, which aligns with the foundation’s vision.
“These individuals embody the essence of our mission to upgrade teachers’ competence and enhance learners’ academic performance across the country”.
He appealed to all well meaning Nigerians to join the government in ensuring total reform of teaching profession that can lead to life turn around in the life of the teachers education system as a whole.
In her keynote address, Dr. Hannah Apapai, called on collaborative efforts to improve on teacher’s welfare, monetary benefits and other incentives.
She stressed that critical plans should be adopted on short, medium and long term that will focus on the growth of the teachers in the areas of housing scheme, recognition and appreciation.
In his view, Dr. Johnson Olatunde Ayo satisfied that teacher’s efforts have been playing a very key role in development of our country and humanity over the years.
Other awardees in separate interviews were on the opinion to support teacher’s efforts through incentives such as better salaries, access to loan, personal development among others.
