Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) can anticipate significant infrastructural advancements in 2025, as announced by the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike. The Minister made this declaration while accepting the prestigious 2025 Minister of the Year Award presented by Thisday Newspaper and Arise Television. The award ceremony took place on Monday, January 27, 2025, in Lagos.
In a press release by the Director Press, Anthony Ogunleye Office of the FCT Minister said the acceptance speech, of the Minister arrister Wike expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve. He stated, “I want to thank Mr. President for granting us this platform. Without his support, we would not have been able to contribute the progress we’ve achieved so far.” He also extended his appreciation to FCT residents, particularly those in Abuja, for their resilience and commitment to their businesses.
The Minister assured residents that 2025 would witness accelerated development and improved infrastructure, emphasizing that the administration is focused on delivering results. “This year will bring more development and infrastructure, which is our priority. We are past the time for excuses; this is what the Renewed Hope Agenda stands for,” he added.
Addressing criticisms from Arise TV and Thisday Newspaper, Barrister Wike noted that the award demonstrated the organizations’ impartiality and recognition of his efforts.
During the award presentation, the Honorable Minister for Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, praised Barrister Wike as an exceptional colleague and a dedicated public servant. He highlighted the Minister’s hard work and loyalty, stating, “The presence of numerous former governors, senators, and other distinguished individuals here today speaks volumes about his impact. I am honored to present this award to him.”
Other notable nominees for the Minister of the Year Award included Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Barrister Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development; Mr. Tunji Olubunmi Ojo, Minister for Interior; and Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, Minister for Health and Social Welfare.
