In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has distributed food items to less privileged members of the Muslim community across the six Area Councils of the FCT. The distribution, which took place on Monday, March 24, 2025, reflects the FCT Administration’s commitment to supporting indigent residents, particularly during festive periods.
The Chief of Staff to the Minister, Hon. Chidi Amadi, represented Wike at the symbolic distribution ceremony held in Gwagwalada Area Council. Amadi emphasized the spiritual significance of Ramadan as a time for fasting, prayer, and charity, noting that the FCT Administration’s gesture underscores its solidarity with the Muslim faithful and welfare groups.
The Minister allocated over 10,000 bags of rice for distribution to mosques and welfare associations across the six Area Councils. Amadi urged recipients to ensure that the food items are fairly distributed to those most in need.
“As we distribute these items today, we urge you to identify those among you who are truly in need and ensure they benefit from this gift provided by the FCT Administration,” Amadi stated.

The Minister also called on corporate bodies and non-governmental organizations within the FCT to follow suit by extending support to vulnerable communities during Ramadan.
Imam Lawal Mustapha, the Imam of the mosque at the Minister’s official Life Camp residence, expressed gratitude for Wike’s compassion and concern for the less privileged. He offered prayers for the Minister’s continued guidance and protection, encouraging other leaders to demonstrate similar generosity.
Alhaji Abdulrazaq Ademola, Principal of the Abuja School for the Deaf, also thanked the FCT Minister, highlighting the relief the food items would provide to vulnerable members of the community, especially those with special needs.
> “This will bring joy to them as they break their fast and celebrate Sallah,” Ademola said.
The food distribution benefited 17 graded chiefs, over 70 mosques across the FCT, and 49 welfare associations ensuring broad support for the Muslim community during Ramadan.
This initiative reinforces the FCT Administration’s dedication to promoting social welfare and fostering unity within the nation’s capital.
