As part of activities marking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year in office, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to invite the President to the FCT’s Area Councils to inaugurate completed infrastructure projects.
A statement by the Director Press, Anthony Ogunleye Office of the FCT Minister said the Minister made this known on Saturday, April 5, 2025, while speaking to journalists during an inspection tour of key projects across Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Bwari Area Councils. These projects are scheduled for commissioning in May to commemorate the President’s second anniversary.
According to Wike, bringing the President to the grassroots will deepen his connection with the people and allow residents of the Area Councils to engage directly with the nation’s leader.
We are working out plans to ensure Mr. President visits at least one or two Area Councils. It’s important that residents outside the city center see their President, not just in urban Abuja, but right where they live,” Wike stated.

We’re considering locations such as Gwagwalada, Kwali, or Bwari—where the Nigerian Law School is situated—as key stops during the President’s visit. We want him to identify with the people and celebrate these milestones with them.
The Minister recalled President Tinubu’s earlier directive to prioritize the development of satellite towns as part of efforts to reduce congestion in the city center. He reiterated that the President remains committed to uplifting these communities by enhancing infrastructure and easing the daily commute for residents.
The President is serious about satellite town development. These projects are part of his vision to create a more balanced and accessible FCT, where people can reach the city in minutes rather than hours,” Wike emphasized.
During the inspection, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of several key projects, including:
– The 10km Agoma Palace/Market/Park Road network in Gwagwalada
– The 15km A2 to Pai Road in Kwali
– The War College/Army Checkpoint Road and connecting routes in Bwari
Describing the construction work as top-notch, Wike commended the contractors for their diligence and professionalism.
We’ve inspected projects in three different Area Councils, and the results speak for themselves. These are quality jobs, executed by reputable contractors. We are not just delivering infrastructure—we are delivering infrastructure that improves lives and boosts local economies.”

He assured the contractors of continued government support, including the provision of adequate funding to ensure timely completion of all projects.
