The Adeola Adeyemi Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, on Saturday donated relief items to inmates at the Suleja Custodial Centre in Niger.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the representative of the foundation, Mrs Tolu Ajayi, said that the move was a compassionate show of support for the less privileged.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the items, which included foodstuffs, clothing, toiletries, and other basic necessities, were distributed to hundreds of inmates during the visit.

The Foundation has consistently carried out similar outreach across Nigeria, including support for widows, orphans, and internally displaced persons, as part of its broader mission to uplift the lives of Nigerians in need.

Ajayi said that the outreach was part of the foundation’s ongoing commitment to making a positive impact in underserved communities.

“Our visit today is inspired by compassion and a deep desire to reach those society often ignored.

“We believe that every human being, regardless of their circumstances, deserves dignity and care. This visit is a small reminder to the inmates that they are not forgotten,”she said.

Ajayi said that the foundation would continue to engage in charitable initiatives aimed at promoting social welfare, especially among vulnerable populations.

She encouraged other NGOs and private individuals to lend a hand in supporting correctional centres and other institutions that cater to marginalised groups

Recieving the items, the Officer-in-Charge of the Suleja Correctional Centre, Mr Suleman Ibrahim expressed profound gratitude for the timely gesture.

“We are deeply grateful to the Adeola Adeyemi Foundation for this act of kindness. These items will go a long way in improving the welfare and morale of the inmates.

“It is encouraging to know that there are organisations out there that still think about those in custody and show them love,”he said.

Ibrahim emphasised that such humanitarian interventions not only meet material needs but also foster a sense of inclusion and hope among the inmates.
