The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reiterated that the ongoing construction of major bus terminals in Abuja will significantly improve the city’s public transport system and urban security.

The statement  released by Rabi Musa Umar
Assistant Director, Press Office of the FCT Minister said, During an inspection tour of several key infrastructure projects in the capital, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress at the Mabushi and Kugbo bus terminals, describing them as crucial to reshaping the movement of people within the city.

“Bus terminals are central to the transformation of our transport system,” the Minister said while speaking to journalists. “These facilities will bring order, safety, and structure to how commuters move around the FCT.”

He also visited the ongoing construction of the access road to the Court of Appeal complex in Dakibiyu, Jabi District, as well as the road leading to Kez Udezue Street off Banex-Kado Road in Mabushi.

Wike noted that the new terminals will help curb the menace of car-related crimes like the notorious “one chance” robberies, by formalising public transportation and making it easier to track vehicles and drivers.

“You won’t need to wait by the roadside. These bus terminals will provide organized boarding points. This will reduce criminal activities and ensure that only registered transport operators are engaged,” he explained.

The Minister further acknowledged the improved work at the Mabushi terminal, especially after raising concerns during an earlier visit.

“I must commend the contractor. There has been significant improvement in the quality of the finishing since our last visit,” Wike added.

On the timeline for commissioning these infrastructure projects, Wike noted that while they are aligned with the administration’s anniversary, final dates will be determined by the President’s availability.

“Not everything has to happen on May 29,” he clarified. “The President will choose convenient dates. We anticipate a two-week window to commission completed projects.”

Wike attributed the ongoing development across the FCT to careful financial planning and the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We are deliberate about how we award contracts. We work within our available resources, largely from local taxes and with strong backing from the Presidency,” he concluded
