On Thursday, June 19, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially commissioned the newly completed Collector Road CN2, widely known as Zakari A. Kyari Street, linking Ahmadu Bello Way in Mabushi District to Katampe and nearby roads.
Represented at the commissioning by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, President Tinubu expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the road project. He described it as a clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to urban development and enhancing the daily lives of Nigerians.
He noted that the project signifies more than infrastructure—it symbolizes progress, better connectivity, and community development. The road is expected to ease traffic congestion, cut down travel time, and improve access within the Mabushi and Katampe Districts and their surroundings.
The President extended his appreciation to FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, and his team for prioritizing infrastructure. He also commended CGC Nigeria Limited for delivering the project efficiently and on schedule.
President Tinubu reaffirmed the government’s dedication to building infrastructure that directly benefits the people, pledging sustained investment in areas such as roads, bridges, housing, education, transport, and healthcare.
“Infrastructure is not a cost—it’s a long-term investment in the future of our nation,” the President stated.
He also acknowledged the temporary challenges faced by residents during construction and thanked them for their cooperation. He urged them to protect and maintain the new road.
Deputy Speaker Kalu, speaking personally, applauded Minister Wike for consistently delivering quality projects. He stated that the Parliament recognizes his excellent performance, especially for giving them “17 days of commissioning” once again this year, similar to the previous year.
Both the President and the National Assembly are pleased with your work. You have turned the Renewed Hope Agenda into a visible reality,” Kalu said.
In his remarks, Minister Wike thanked President Tinubu for his ongoing support and for attending to FCT projects. He praised CGC Nigeria Limited for successfully completing multiple infrastructure projects, including those in Gishiri, Wasa, and Greater Abuja Water Supply, besides the new road.
He clarified that Collector Road CN2, while benefiting areas such as the Judges’ Quarters, has broader impacts by connecting multiple locations across the district.
Wike highlighted the economic value of the road, noting that property prices in the area have risen due to improved access. He also stressed the need for residents to fulfill their civic duty by paying ground rents and other taxes, as these revenues fund vital infrastructure.
This city survives on taxes. If you don’t pay, these roads won’t be built. We must all contribute, especially those who have the means, Wike emphasized.
*Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud*, represented by Mrs. Grace Adayilo, FCTA’s Head of Service, thanked the President for his steadfast support and acknowledged the FCT Minister’s dedication to infrastructure delivery.
*Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), provided a technical overview. He said the project covered phase II of Abuja’s development plan, addressing areas previously lacking critical infrastructure.
The scope included a *dual carriage Collector Road CN2* and several adjoining minor roads within *Katampe District*, complete with vital utilities such as *stormwater drains, culverts, wastewater systems, streetlights, water networks, and telecom ducts* .
Zhong Xiang, Managing Director of *CGC Nigeria Limited*, expressed appreciation for the trust placed in them and thanked the local communities for their support throughout the project’s execution.
