President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering indigenous contractors and generating employment for Nigerians through critical infrastructure projects. This declaration was made on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, during the commissioning of the newly completed 16.4-kilometre Ushafa, War College, Army Checkpoint, and other ancillary roads in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu praised the execution of the road project by Abdul Val Nigeria Limited, an indigenous construction company. He highlighted that the project underscores the Federal Government’s strategy to promote local content and build the capacity of homegrown contractors.
“We are not merely laying asphalt. We are investing in our people, creating sustainable jobs, and instilling a sense of ownership and pride in our communities. The successful completion of this project is a testament to the potential of Nigerian contractors to deliver world-class infrastructure when given the right environment,” President Tinubu stated.
He described the commissioning of the road as a significant milestone in his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that infrastructure is a tool for economic transformation. The dualized and upgraded roads are expected to ease traffic congestion, boost local commerce, facilitate access to schools and health centers, and improve the quality of life for residents in Ushafa, Bwari, and surrounding communities.
“This is how we bring governance closer to the people. No district or area council in the FCT will be left behind. Development must be inclusive, touching all parts of Abuja. That is when we can confidently say that the capital city is truly working for everyone,” he added.
President Tinubu emphasized that his administration is determined to develop a functional and modern capital city that serves all residents, regardless of location. He urged Nigerians to support the government’s efforts to build a nation where businesses thrive and citizens enjoy dignity and opportunities.
In his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, expressed deep appreciation to the President for his unprecedented commitment to developing the FCT’s satellite towns. He noted that this was the first time a sitting President or Vice President had visited an Area Council to commission a project.
“This visit sends a powerful message to the residents of satellite towns: you matter. Development is not confined to the city center. This administration values every Nigerian, regardless of where they live,” Wike said.

Wike admitted that he initially had reservations about the capacity of Abdul Val Nigeria Limited to handle such a large-scale project. However, his concerns were allayed after multiple visits to the construction site, where he was convinced of the contractor’s capability.
“I personally visited the project site over 15 times, including weekends, to monitor progress and ensure quality delivery. Today, we see proof that with oversight and encouragement, Nigerian firms can excel,” the Minister said.
The Minister stressed the importance of supporting local companies, highlighting that successful delivery by Nigerian firms strengthens confidence in local capacity. He also praised the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, for his dedication and tireless work.
“He has worked day and night to bring this project to life. If he has a wife, I must apologize to her on behalf of the FCT,” Wike humorously noted.
He also addressed critics of the current administration, describing them as politically expired individuals who have failed to recognize the government’s achievements.
“Let them tune in to any channel and see what this administration is doing every day. From roads to schools and healthcare, we are delivering projects that touch lives,” he said.
Wike also thanked Vice President Shettima for his unwavering support and reiterated his loyalty to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In her vote of thanks, Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, extended gratitude to President Tinubu, the National Assembly, and the FCT Minister for their commitment to uplifting the lives of rural residents.
