An NGO, Anti-Kidnapping, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse and Drug Abuse Initiative (AKH-TRACADA) has condemned the recent attack on communities in Orumba North and Aguata Local Government Areas of Anambra State.
Founder and Executive Director of the Initiative, Mr Belonwu Ezeanyaeche, made the condemnation in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
Ezeanyaeche described the incident as an “unprovoked and senseless attack on innocent Nigerian citizens,”
He, however, called for sustained vigilance and community collaboration with security agencies especially in the states where insecurity were rampant.
He said that the affected communities, Oko in Orumba North and Ekwulobia in Aguata LGA, were attacked by suspected armed hoodlums, but were swiftly defended by security operatives led by the Nigeria Police.
The NGO boss saluted the bravery and professionalism of the Anambra State Police Command and sister agencies who responded swiftly by confronting the hoodlums.
“AKH-TRACADA strongly condemns the attack on law-abiding citizens in Oko and Ekwulobia.
“We commend the gallant efforts of the Anambra State Police Command and other security operatives who swiftly repelled the attackers.
“They also recovered arms and retrieved stolen vehicles from the terrorists,”he said.
Ezeanyaeche emphasised that the success of the operation further affirms the importance of proactive intelligence gathering and community-police collaboration in addressing emerging security threats in the region.
He noted that the attackers fled after engaging the police-led joint task force in a gun duel, adding that normalcy had since returned to the affected areas.
He added that the recovery of weapons and operational vehicles used by the hoodlums was a clear indication of the readiness of the security agencies to protect lives and property.
The NGO boss, however, stressed the need for proactive intelligence gathering, continuous security patrols and community engagement as critical elements in combating insecurity.
He said that the NGO remained committed to supporting efforts targeted at ending insecurity, especially crimes related to kidnapping, trafficking, child abuse, and drug abuse.
“Security is a continuous process. We urge residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to the authorities,” he said.
Ezeanyaeche called on traditional rulers, youth associations and civil society groups to intensify grassroots advocacy and peacebuilding campaigns across Anambra communities.
