The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has declared that there will be no room for excuses in delivering on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Abuja.
Speaking on Monday, September 22, 2025, during the official flag-off of the construction of a 3.4-kilometre strategic access road (SILS 01 and SILS 02, Timipre Sylva Street) in the Mabushi District, the Minister emphasised his resolve to translate the President’s vision into tangible results that will benefit residents of the capital city.
According to Wike, his duty is not to burden the President with daily complaints but to “think outside the box” and provide solutions that align with the administration’s policies.
He said:
“My responsibility is to ensure that the Renewed Hope Agenda becomes a reality in the FCT. I cannot afford to present excuses to Mr. President because that will only weaken his confidence in me. My job is to support, implement, and deliver results that reflect his vision for Nigeria and, in particular, Abuja.”
The Minister stressed that his administration is determined to drive projects that directly improve the lives of residents, insisting that commitment to duty remains the key factor in determining who gets government support.
“Whether in transport, agriculture, health, or education—if you show seriousness and dedication, you will get my full backing,” he assured.
Wike reiterated his promise that Abuja will experience a transformation in infrastructure during President Tinubu’s tenure. He pointed out that the administration is focused on building a city that competes globally with some of the most advanced capitals.
“Before the end of Mr President’s tenure, Abuja will be a different city altogether. We are working to ensure that infrastructure here can be compared with what exists in other great cities of the world,” he said.
The Minister noted that while roads appear to dominate current projects, other crucial sectors are also receiving attention.
Responding to critics who believe his administration is focusing only on road projects, Wike clarified that the FCT Administration is working across multiple fronts.
We are indeed pushing road projects strongly, but that doesn’t mean we have abandoned other areas. Transportation, health, and education are also being improved. The truth is that when we took office, there were enormous challenges, but because of our determination, we have resolved that no sector will be left untouched,” he explained.

On the issue of aggrieved contractors planning a demonstration, the Minister acknowledged their right to protest but emphasised that contracts must follow due process. He noted that projects will only be awarded when funds are available, stressing that transparency and accountability will remain guiding principles.
Wike also brushed aside political name-calling, stating that such distractions are expected in public service. His only concern, he said, is ensuring that President Tinubu remains satisfied with his performance.
Providing technical details, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda explained that the project includes 3.4 kilometres of dual carriageway access roads (ILS 02 and ILS 03 – Timipre Sylva Crescent).
The project, which was awarded in March 2025 to SETRACO Nigeria Limited, has a completion timeline of 19 months. According to Dauda, the construction scope covers not just the roadways but also essential engineering services such as street lighting, telecommunication ducts, and drainage systems.
Importantly, the road will connect to the recently completed Mabushi Bus Terminal, thereby improving circulation and accessibility in the district.
Dauda confirmed that SETRACO has already mobilised to the site, with work currently underway. He also highlighted that the project will create both direct and indirect job opportunities for residents, stimulating the local economy.
In her remarks, the Acting Head of the FCTA Civil Service, Nancy Sabanti, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his visionary leadership and support for the FCT. She also praised Minister Wike for his consistency and dedication, describing him as a leader committed to the growth of Abuja.
Similarly, the Managing Director of SETRACO Nigeria Ltd, Engr. Ziad Mouannes is committed to delivering the project on schedule and in accordance with international best practices. He thanked the Minister for the confidence reposed in the company and assured that the roads would meet the highest standards.
For residents of the Mabushi District and the wider FCT, the new access road project represents more than just improved transportation. It is a symbol of the government’s determination to address infrastructure gaps, stimulate economic growth, and create a livable capital city.
By ensuring that contracts are executed transparently and projects delivered on time, the Minister of the FCT has reassured citizens that Abuja will continue to evolve into a modern city where development is inclusive and sustainable.
As construction progresses, the project stands as another testament to the administration’s belief that “no sector will be left untouched,” a pledge that reflects both accountability and the renewed hope Nigerians are looking forward to.
