The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for stepping in once again to address the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State. The President’s renewed intervention aims to resolve the disagreement between the Rivers State House of Assembly and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, during an inspection of major road projects across Abuja, Wike described President Tinubu’s involvement as timely and necessary for preserving stability in the state. He noted that this marks the second time the President has intervened to mediate the dispute, emphasising that the action reflects genuine concern for peace and governance in Rivers State.
According to the Minister, the President acted in the spirit of national leadership and unity. He expressed hope that this latest mediation effort would lead to a lasting resolution of the political crisis. Wike stated that both parties involved in the disagreement have been encouraged to adhere strictly to the directives outlined by the President to ensure a sustainable peace agreement.
He also expressed optimism that members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the state executive arm would cooperate fully in implementing the agreed terms. The Minister stressed that compliance from all stakeholders is essential to prevent further instability and restore confidence in governance within the state.
Beyond addressing political developments, Wike used the opportunity to provide updates on key infrastructure projects in the nation’s capital. During the inspection tour, he visited ongoing road works in the Life Camp and Karsana districts, two areas experiencing rapid urban growth.
The Minister disclosed that the extension of Arterial Road N5, also known as Obafemi Awolowo Way, from Life Camp Junction to Kafe District is nearing completion. The project, handled by Julius Berger Plc, includes a four-lane bridge and modern pedestrian walkways. Wike revealed that final touches, including street lighting and finishing works, are expected to be completed within the next three weeks.
He further announced that the road is scheduled for inauguration as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office. According to him, the project represents a major boost to traffic flow and connectivity within the Federal Capital Territory.

In Karsana, the Minister inspected the Renewed Hope City Access Road, a 10-kilometre ring road currently under construction by Lubriks Construction Company. He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, noting that the contractor remains on track to meet the May/June completion deadline.
Wike assured residents that adequate funding would continue to be provided to ensure the timely delivery of all ongoing projects. He reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to maintaining high construction standards and meeting set timelines in line with the government’s broader development agenda.
The Minister concluded by reaffirming that infrastructure expansion remains a priority for the administration, emphasising that improved road networks will enhance mobility, economic activity, and overall quality of life for Abuja residents.
