The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to strengthening the judicial system with modern infrastructure, following an inspection of new Magistrate Court projects across Abuja.
The inspection, which took place on February 13, 2026, came shortly after the Minister concluded a series of road project assessments in the capital. Shifting focus to the justice sector, he visited construction sites in Asokoro, Jabi, and Garki to evaluate progress on newly approved court facilities.
At the Asokoro site, the Minister acknowledged the difficult terrain but expressed satisfaction with the steady pace of work. He commended contractors for maintaining quality standards despite environmental challenges. The tour proceeded to Jabi, where a Magistrate Court project initiated in December 2025 is already advancing significantly.
The final stop was Garki, where construction teams assured the Minister that the new Magistrate Court complex would be completed and ready for handover before the end of June 2026. He described the progress as encouraging and consistent with the administration’s timeline.
Speaking with journalists after the inspection, Wike explained that the expansion of courtroom facilities aligns with a directive to ensure the FCT judiciary has adequate infrastructure to function effectively. According to him, increasing the number of courtrooms will help reduce case backlogs and eliminate delays caused by limited space.
He emphasized that the development of judicial infrastructure is part of a broader strategy aimed at delivering balanced growth across sectors. While the administration continues to invest heavily in road networks, healthcare services, and educational facilities, the justice system remains a central pillar in democratic governance.
“The judiciary plays a vital role in protecting the rights of citizens and sustaining democracy,” the Minister noted. “Our goal is to provide more functional courtrooms and appropriate facilities so that justice can be delivered efficiently and without unnecessary obstacles.”
The FCT Administration maintains that ongoing investments across multiple sectors reflect a coordinated approach to improving public service delivery and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
