The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has signed major development agreements to transform Jabi Lake into a modern recreational and tourism hub in Abuja.
At a formal ceremony, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced that the Administration has partnered with Suburban Broadband Limited and Akida Hills Limited to deliver the ambitious project. The initiative is expected to reposition Jabi Lake as a premier destination for leisure, entertainment, and economic activity.
Wike described Abuja as one of Africa’s fastest-growing capital cities, with strong potential for tourism and recreation. However, he expressed concern that progress in some areas has been slowed by land speculation. According to him, the era of holding government land without development is over. He warned that allottees must commence and complete development within six months or risk revocation of their land titles.

“The Administration is committed to ensuring that allocated lands serve their intended purpose,” the minister stated, adding that decisive steps are being taken to accelerate infrastructure and investment across the territory.
Speaking on behalf of Suburban Broadband Limited, Mr. Pankaj Khandelwal said the agreement represents a strategic milestone for the company. He noted that the project would attract investment, stimulate local businesses, and generate employment opportunities for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
Similarly, Mr. Bamisile Olukayode, representing Akida Hills Limited, commended the Minister’s leadership and vision. He described the Jabi Lake project as transformative, promising a world-class recreational environment that will elevate Abuja’s global profile. He assured that the development would be completed before the end of the year.
The FCTA says the project aligns with its broader urban renewal strategy aimed at strengthening economic growth, enhancing tourism, and improving the overall quality of life in Abuja.
