The Aguma of Gwagwalada, Muhammad Magaji, has commended the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for its sustained commitment to the reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders into society.
Magaji gave the commendation when the Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Mr Christopher Jen, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Gwagwalada.
The traditional leader, in a statement by the Command Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Samson Duza, issued on Friday, said that the rehabilitation and reintegration programme was yielding the desired results.
He added that the correctional programmes of the Service had positively impacted members of his community who passed through custodial centres.
According to him, many of the offenders have become productive and law-abiding citizens after their release.

“I must commend the Nigerian Correctional Service for the good work it is doing. The Service is truly transforming lives.
“I am aware of members of my community who, after returning from custodial centres, established shops, practised the skills they acquired and have remained responsible citizens,” he said.
Magaji expressed appreciation for the Service’s reform initiatives and pledged continued support and collaboration with the NCoS in advancing its mandate within the community.
Earlier, Jen, said that the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with the traditional institution in furtherance of the Service’s mandate.
He said the engagement aligned with the vision of the Controller-General of Corrections, Mr Sylvester Nwakuche, toward enhancing correctional administration through strategic partnerships.
Jen emphasised the importance of equipping inmates with practical and marketable skills to improve their prospects for successful reintegration into society.
According to him, the Service has continued to record progress in transforming inmates into productive and goal-oriented individuals rather than mere custodial cases.
He added that products made by inmates were presented during the visit to showcase competencies acquired through various vocational training programmes.
The exhibition, he said, highlighted the Service’s focus on skills development as a pathway to sustainable reintegration.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event reflected the NCoS commitment to strengthening partnerships with traditional institutions and other stakeholders in promoting rehabilitation, restorative justice and community reintegration. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
