The International Centre for Population and Development Activities has recognised the Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service, FCT Command, Christopher Jen, with an Exceptional Leadership and Global Peace Ambassadorial Award.
The honour was presented during a ceremony held in Abuja, according to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Samson Duza.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of CIPA INTERNATIONAL, Joseph David, explained that the award recognises Jen’s strong leadership, dedication to peacebuilding, and commitment to youth empowerment. He described the controller as a key figure driving positive change within the correctional system and the wider community.
David noted that the recognition also comes with the title of “Global Peace Ambassador,” aligning with the ideals of the United Nations Global Peace Convention. According to him, Jen’s contributions to promoting stability and social transformation have made a measurable impact, positioning him as a role model in public service.
“Controller Jen represents hope and transformation, contributing significantly to peace and stability in the communities he serves,” he said.
In his acceptance remarks, Jen expressed gratitude for the recognition, dedicating the award to inmates under his supervision and vulnerable individuals across society. He reaffirmed his commitment to humanitarian service, adding that the honour would inspire him to expand ongoing outreach programmes.
“This award encourages me to do more, especially in strengthening initiatives that support the less privileged,” he stated.
Observers say the recognition highlights the evolving role of correctional leadership in promoting rehabilitation, peacebuilding, and community engagement. It also reflects the growing importance of the Nigeria Correctional Service in advancing social development beyond custodial responsibilities.
