The FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday inspected several major road projects across the capital city, reiterating the administration’s push for timely completion ahead of planned commissioning by President Bola Tinubu on April 1, 2026. The inspections are part of ongoing efforts to ensure infrastructure delivery meets quality standards and aligns with the president’s third anniversary agenda.
Wike visited multiple project sites, including the N16 dual carriageway linking Jahi and Gwarimpa, the Airport Road to Kuje junction, and the first phase of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road. Contractors handling the projects include Global Civil and Building Construction Nigeria Ltd., Arab Contractors and Gilmor Engineering Nigeria Ltd.
The minister said the projects remain on track for completion in May, expressing confidence in the pace and quality of work observed during the inspection. He noted that regular monitoring would continue to ensure deadlines are met and standards maintained.
“I am generally impressed with the quality of work delivered so far,” Wike said. “However, inspections will not stop here. We will continue to visit these sites regularly to ensure contractors remain focused and meet agreed timelines.”
He emphasised that the FCT Administration will sustain oversight while providing necessary support to contractors, adding that governance should translate into tangible improvements in residents’ daily lives.
During the visit, Wike also addressed concerns about a temporary bridge collapse along an alternative route between Kuje and Gwagwalada, reportedly caused by heavy rainfall. He commended the contractor’s quick response in restoring access.

“One of the key measures of a contractor’s competence is the ability to provide alternatives during construction,” he said. “The swift intervention to restore access demonstrates professionalism and commitment.”
Beyond infrastructure, Wike responded to recent political remarks made by Bauchi State Gov. Bala Mohammed, who alleged that the minister was working to undermine the Peoples Democratic Party. Wike dismissed the claim, describing it as inconsistent and unfounded.
He argued that those making such accusations are themselves shifting political alliances, casting doubt on their credibility. “If those accusing me have moved to other parties, then the question is who is truly undermining the party,” he said.
Wike reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, stating he has no intention of leaving the party despite his support for the current administration. He maintained that his political stance has remained unchanged since 2022.
The minister also criticised what he described as inconsistent political positions by Mohammed, referencing past alliances and changes in affiliation. According to Wike, such actions reflect instability rather than principled leadership.
The FCT Administration has prioritised road development as part of broader efforts to improve transportation and economic activity within Abuja and surrounding communities. The projects under review are expected to enhance connectivity between key districts and satellite towns, easing traffic congestion and supporting urban expansion.

With the anticipated commissioning in May, the administration aims to showcase progress in infrastructure development as part of its performance record.
