President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised Minister Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for his leadership style and his ability to deliver on the promises made.
This recommendation was made by the President on Saturday, June 8, 2024, when he ordered the delivery of engineering infrastructure to Lot II of the Guzape District, on the last day of the first round of commissioning of FCT projects in the capital of the state.
President Tinubu said: “Nyesom Wike, you have provided exceptional leadership at a difficult time for the country. It has been a very challenging time for us, even now we are still trying to reorganize our financial system to bring prosperity and relief to the people of the country. You have demonstrated the ability to build a team, lead a team, and deliver on promises. I praise you very much.”
Referring to disputes over compensation and relocation highlighted earlier by the FCT Minister, the President warned that residents should pursue dialogue and development focused on creating prosperity for their communities rather than resorting to litigation.
He asked, “What is the value of land blocked by hills, mountains and rocks that are inaccessible and unavailable for drinking water?” At the same time, he urges traditional leaders to communicate with their subjects on development issues. He also reiterated his government’s commitment to improving the quality of life.
He said: “I am here as your president. I have no argument here. But I have the support of the people and the mission to guarantee a good quality of life and a good living environment. This should be enough to share the joy of commitment, dedication, perseverance and giving a small part of what God has given us.”
In his speech, the FCT Minister once again congratulated the President for his support and consistency in fulfilling the invitation of the FCT administration to commission nine days of projects as part of the activities to mark its first year of mandate.
The minister said the presence of the President in each committee was a demonstration of his love for the FCT and its people and a renewal of hope for a people who had lost it.
Bar Wike, who said Guzape district is one of the largest and fastest developing districts in the FCT, said the contract for its development was awarded in two phases in 2003 at a cost of N14 billion and it was reviewed in 2023. He said when he took over as minister, the two contractors for both lots were brought back to the site.
The minister said although the development was affected by a series of disputes, this did not deter the FCT administration from carrying out the necessary works. However, he attributed the success of the project to the President’s support for FCTA and his (the President’s) passion.
He said: “Because of your passion, your tenacity and to ensure that projects are not abandoned… you ensured that these projects were completed.
Another reason for our success is that he (the President) gave us this space. I told people who were willing to listen that the President has never interfered in our work since I took office on August 21, 2023… My Minister of State and I are sincerely glad that he has given us carte blanche to work. And that is what we see today.”
The Minister assured that work on Plot I in the Guzape District has already begun, as well as the Diplomatic Area also in Guzape, which he described as a beautiful place to live in the FCT, and thanked the President for implementing the Hope Agenda Renewed in the FCT. .
In her remarks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud highlighted the importance of providing technical infrastructure for the sustainable development of each city and thanked the President for making this possible for Guzape District.
He also thanked the President and all FCT stakeholders who took their time to appreciate the series of FCT project commissions and commended residents for their patience and support for the FCT administration.
In his overview of the project, FCDA Executive Secretary, Eng. Shehu Hadi Ahmed said Guzape District is designed to provide residential, commercial and recreational facilities, adding that all engineering works of Lot II have been completed, including 31 .3 kilometers of roads, a power substation and a mini sewage system.
