The Professional Driving and Safety Academy (PDSA) announces that it is organizing free driving training for drivers and cyclists, in an attempt to significantly reduce the number of road accidents, injuries and deaths.
The project coordinator of the organization, Jide Owatunmise, said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
The Professional Driving and Safety Academy (PDSA) is a Federal Highway Service Corps (FRSC) approved and certified experienced driving school established in 2008.
Owatunmise said the academy would also organize the Nigeria Best Driver Competition to increase the motivation of riders and riders to improve their performance.
He said the objective of the event was to promote road safety education among all categories of road users for sustainable safety on Nigerian roads.

This is in line with the United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety (2021-2030), the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy (2021-2030), and the resolutions of the National Transport Council (8 December 2022).
Owatunmise said the essence of the competition and free driver training was to address the causal factors related to drivers in the country.
He said it also aims to further complement the commendable efforts of relevant stakeholders and other well-meaning Nigerians in reducing road accidents.
According to him, several national and global research reports found that more than 80 percent of road accidents (RTC) were caused by human factors, while more than 70 percent were attributed to drivers.
“This means that if driver-related causal factors are effectively addressed, the number of road accidents will be significantly and sustainably reduced.”
“Given the worryingly high rates of RTC, injuries, and deaths in Nigeria, there is an urgent need for multidimensional, results-oriented, and proactive interventions.
“The aim is to sustainably strengthen traffic education, driver motivation, and road safety culture in Nigeria, as in many other countries.”
“Our organization, in collaboration with various road safety stakeholders, initiated and launched the annual Nigerian Driver’s Day event on November 15, 2023.

“The 2024 edition of National Driver’s Day will take place on June 27 and will feature “Nigeria’s best driver competition and free road safety education for drivers and cyclists with a variety of prizes and prizes,” he said.
Owatunmise commended the Federal Ministry of Health and Wellbeing for its significant contribution to transportation and safety on Nigerian roads.
He assured the general public of the organization’s commitment to preventing road accidents, which, according to him, saves lives, time, and money for everyone.
