The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) FCT Command is calling for effective collaboration with the judiciary to facilitate the speedy implementation of justice and debunking of two detention centres.
The Head of NCoS FCT Command, Ibrahim Usman, was called during his visit to the Chefe de Justiça da FCT, Juiz Husseini Baba-Yusuf, in Abuja.
Usman, who assumed office on June 1, was replaced by John Francis, who was recently posted to Kaduna State Zonal Headquarters.
We appeal to the judiciary to find ways to deliver justice to inmates who are not in detention centres.
But this is like those who are not designated as judges of their cases and decide on detention.
Acrescentou further explains that a regular visit by the President of the Court to the prison facility would help decongest FCT detention centres and give hope to inmates and their families.
Reacting, Juiz Baba-Yusuf appreciated the visit and believed it was timely, proactive, and healthy for the criminal justice system.
Baba-Yusuf, who is also the President of the FCT Judicial Service Commission, said the judicial power and its partners’ correctional services are awakening the need for continuous collaboration and cooperation.
The assurance of the service and its endless support led to the setting up of a commission to study ways of rehabilitating and decongesting FCT detention centres.
“We have set up a commission to decongest the detention centres. The results will soon be visible,” he explained.
In the same direction, Usman addresses the needs of all security agencies working in more facilities to strengthen the synergies that already exist.
This point is to help the Correctional Service achieve its goal of detention, which is mainly aimed at reforming the line with the NCoS Law of 2019.
A NAN designates the fact that the Controller also visits all correct installations due to his command.
This point aims to motivate employees and ensure strict compliance with operational policies aligned with the best international practices.
Among the formations visited are: the Security Media Detention Center, Kuje; Media Security Detention Center, Suleja; Model Agricultural Center Dukpa;
Others are the Juvenile/De-radicalisation Centre, Suleja; Kennel Unit, Poultry, Soap Cottage, Industry and Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Karshi, which is still under construction
