The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has sought the support of the Abuja community in the implementation of non-custodial services in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Controller of Correctional Services, FCT Command, Olatubosun Ajibogun, made the request during a courtesy visit to Ona, Abaji, Alh. (Doctor) Adamu Yunusa.
This is contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), NCoS, FCT Command, Mr. Samson Duza on Friday in Abuja.
Ajibogun explained that non-custodial services such as probation, parole and community service were designed to rehabilitate offenders and prepare them for reintegration into society.
He stressed that the success of non-custodial services depends on community support and collaboration and sought the royal father’s help in sensitizing the community on the importance of non-custodial services.
“NCoS non-custodial services are designed to provide an alternative to incarceration, with an emphasis on rehabilitation and reintegration rather than punishment.
“By seeking community support, NCoS aims to create a safer society where offenders have the opportunity to retire and become productive members of society,” he said.
In response, the Ona of Abaji expressed their readiness to further strengthen the existing relationship between the community and the NCoS, for the mutual benefit of residents and indigenous peoples.
Yunusa pledged his support to the Comptroller and promised to work with the NCoS to achieve its key mandates.
He commended the NCoS for its efforts to maintain public safety and pledged to support the service in its efforts to rehabilitate offenders.
Father Royal also offered prayers and blessings for the Controller’s successful tenure, wishing him all the best as Helmsman of the FCT Command.
