The Road Safety Officers Wives Association (ROSOWA) says it will commence advocacy in secondary schools against under-age driving in order to amplify the dangers inherent across the country.
ROSOWA President, Dr. Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed, made this known during a send-forth ceremony held in Abuja on Saturday in honor of Hajia Aisha Dauda-Biu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Hajia Aisha Dauda-Biu is the wife of the immediate past Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dauda Ali-Biu, who retired in 2024.
Dr. Shehu-Mohammed emphasized that under-age driving remains a significant issue in society and that ROSOWA is committed to reducing its prevalence.
“I cannot imagine parents allowing their under-age children to drive. Our goal is to minimize this issue as much as possible,” she said.
“Secondary schools are our primary focus because they provide the best platform for education, advocacy, and awareness on this matter.
“We believe that educating students and emphasizing the legal driving age of 18 will significantly help in addressing the problem.”
Dr. Shehu-Mohammed commended previous ROSOWA presidents, especially the founder, Mrs. Rhoda Hananiya, for her dedication in establishing and nurturing the association.
“I assure everyone that my administration will uphold the legacy of past leaders by organizing skill acquisition programs and implementing impactful projects.
“Our administration is determined to make a positive impact in the lives of our members.
“At the end of our tenure, we want to leave a meaningful legacy for future leadership.
“To be more precise, we intend to strengthen initiatives promoting road safety awareness in secondary schools and collaborate with partner agencies to enhance road safety campaigns across Nigeria,” she added.
Speaking at the event, Hajia Aisha Dauda-Biu expressed gratitude to ROSOWA for recognizing her contributions, stating that she was overwhelmed by the display of love and appreciation.
She encouraged the current leadership to remain dedicated and hardworking, emphasizing the need to advance ROSOWA’s mission by supporting the FRSC and fulfilling its mandate.
“I am truly honored today. I thank Almighty Allah for this recognition and dedicate this appreciation to all past ROSOWA Presidents and members,” she said.
Earlier, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, urged the association to remain united, dedicated, and selfless in their service.
Represented by Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM) in charge of training, Chidiebere Nkonta, Mohammed reassured ROSOWA of the FRSC’s unwavering support.
“As your husbands, we deeply appreciate your support. We stand by you and will always support your initiatives.
“Let us know your programs and we will assist you. It is also essential to maintain unity within your ranks,” he stated.
The event featured the presentation of gifts to Hajia Aisha Dauda-Biu, as well as awards to past ROSOWA presidents and outstanding executive members.
