The Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association (ROSOWA) has provided free healthcare services to more than 3,000 residents of Ushafa, in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Speaking during the outreach on Saturday in Abuja, the President of ROSOWA, Dr Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed, stated that the initiative aimed to improve the living standards of people in rural communities.

Shehu-Mohammed, who was represented by Mrs Sadiyat Hafiz, noted that the medical outreach was also intended to foster stronger relationships between rural residents and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

She urged the people of Ushafa to maintain a clean environment and refrain from dumping refuse on roads and waterways.

She further emphasised that ROSOWA would continue to carry out sensitisation campaigns to help reduce road traffic accidents in rural areas.

In his remarks, the FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Chorrie Muta’a, said the free medical outreach also aimed to ensure that road users were healthy and fit to drive.

“A healthy individual is the only one who should be behind the wheel,” Muta’a said.

He added that initiatives like this demonstrate that the FRSC engages in more than just arrests and prosecutions, it also supports community well-being.

In her goodwill message, the FCT Chairperson of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Mrs Salamotu Orakwelu, expressed confidence that the partnership with the FRSC to provide free medication would contribute to improved traffic management.

Orakwelu also announced plans by the association to supply medicines and offer further support to FRSC clinics in the FCT.

The Hakimi of Ushafa, represented by Chief Solomon Awulo, commended the FRSC for organising the outreach in the community.

He remarked that the free healthcare initiative would significantly help reduce maternal mortality and combat diseases that commonly affect children.

Also speaking, a medical practitioner, Dr Olutomi Sodipo, advised residents to prioritise hygiene and seek medical attention when necessary. She encouraged pregnant women to make use of the treated mosquito nets distributed during the outreach.

Other medical organisations and Special Marshals of the FRSC, in their separate remarks, praised the residents of Ushafa, especially the women for turning out in large numbers.

They pledged continued support for the FRSC in its mission to ensure safer roads and promote socio-economic development in the FCT.
