The Committee of Youths on Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS) in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation is set to hold the 2024 National Conference to enhance peace and national development.

A statement by the CYMS Director General, Chief Obinna Nwaka on Wednesday in Abuja said that the national conference was aimed to Promote Peaceful coexistence, ethnic and religious cohesion in Nigeria.

Nwaka said that the conference which had the the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Dr. George Akume as the special guest of honour was also to deepening the efforts to improve the capacity building of the youths.

He said that it was also organised as part of efforts to engender peaceful coexistence among the component parts of the federation.

Nwaka said that there were myriads of security challenges across the countries that were yet to be brought to a halt which he said, included Kidnapping, Banditry, robbery, killings, among others.

He added that such myriads of security issues were indications that all parts of the country were engrossed in one security challenge or another.

According to him, CYMS has been recommending suitable platforms for resolving avoidable conflicts in order to return Nigeria to the path of peace and sustainable development.

“This national conference is yet another platform to bring together experts and stakeholders to discuss and develop strategies to promote peace and stability in the country.

“This is also to build a culture of peace, social cohesion, and resilience within communities to resist external influences that may seek to undermine the integrity of the electoral process, and to promote unity and solidarity among diverse groups’, “he said.

The CYMS DG said he had briefed Seyi Tinubu and the Minister of Youth Development, Mr Ayodele Olawande Wisdom during the Youth Stakeholders meeting in Abuja.

He believed that that the event would mark as pivotal moments recognising the crucial role young people play in building a more peaceful, safe and secure future.

“Youths restiveness poses a serious problem to peace and development and there is a need for collective actions to curb this menace,” he said.

Nwaka appreciated the Federal Government for its efforts in ensuring peace and sustainable development in Nigeria while pledging the commitment of the organisation to sustaining the tempo.

Some of the organisations already invited to feature at the event holding Thursday June 6 and Friday June 7, 2024 in Abuja include Economic And Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution.

Others are Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Samuela Isopi the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria among others.
