Earlier, the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, said the construction of the bus terminal was in line with the vision of making the FCT a world-class city, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda. He highlighted the importance of the terminal in improving transportation and addressing security challenges, including the problem of car theft, commonly referred to as “an opportunity.”
“We have decided to start with three bus and taxi terminals in the FCT, one in the Central Business Zone, one at Mabushi, and one at Kugbo,” the minister said. He revealed that the contract for the construction of the terminal was awarded to a local contractor, Planet Projects, to promote human capital development and empower indigenous entrepreneurs. Wike thanked President Tinubu for showing confidence in the capabilities of local entrepreneurs.
The Minister urged the contractor to ensure timely completion of the project, emphasizing his personal commitment to monitoring and supervising the project. He also called on the Mabushi community to support the contractor to ensure the project is on schedule.
The minister lamented the distortion of the Abuja master plan, pointing out that land intended for a bus terminal in the central business district was wrongly allocated to an individual. He warned that the FCT administration would take necessary measures to correct these anomalies.
Responding to criticism over the performance of the FCT administration in the area of social services, the minister attributed such criticism to malice and ignorance, insisting that the administration had delivered a credible performance in a short time-lapse.
The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud also commended Wike’s commitment to improving the transport scenario in the FCT. He stressed that the construction of the bus terminal will improve the architectural panorama of the FCT.
The Mandate Secretary, FCT Transport Secretariat, Hon. Elechi said the terminal, when completed, would ease traffic congestion and reduce transportation costs in the FCT. He noted that the terminal will be equipped with modern facilities to improve user experience.
Eng. Biodun Otunola, CEO of Planet Projects, spoke about the facilities at Mabushi Terminal which include CCTV cameras, shops, ATMs, elevators, and escalators. He assured me that the project would be iconic and would elevate Abuja to the status of a world-class city like New York.
