Office of the FCT Minister said, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Agric and Rural Development Secretariat, Malam Lawan Geidam, disclosed that the committee approved the procurement of 300 metric tons of NPK, 300 metric tons of Urea, 310 NAFSAT sprayers, and 3,500 liters of liquid fertilizer for irrigation farming.
“This is a groundbreaking policy aimed at promoting year-round farming in the FCT,” Geidam said. “With the end of the rainy season, irrigation farming will not only ensure food security but also transform agricultural practices in the FCT.”
He expressed gratitude to the Minister for this initiative, noting that it was the first time the FCT had implemented a policy of this magnitude to support dry-season farming.
The Mandate Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, announced that the committee approved contracts for procuring 1,000 computers to digitize the education system in FCT Senior Secondary Schools.
“With a contract valued at approximately ₦990 million, this initiative will integrate digital tools into the vocational and educational curriculum. It marks a transition from traditional classroom teaching to a media-driven education system,” Dr. Hayyo said.
He added that the digitization effort would enhance students’ preparation for examinations such as JAMB, WAEC, and NECO, which are increasingly adopting computer-based testing.
The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) Coordinator, Chief Felix Obuah, briefed journalists on the committee’s plans to relocate Apo mechanics and spare part dealers trading along the road corridor.
Chief Obuah stated that 15,000 traders had been enumerated, with 12,000 completing the application process for relocation to the permanent site in Wasa District.
“The EXCO resolved to address all issues affecting the relocation exercise to ensure a smooth transition. The Minister is also exploring ways to ease the financial burden on traders and ensure no one is surcharged,” he said.
He confirmed that a new committee would be set up to oversee the relocation process and enable the commencement of the OSEX road construction project.
The FCTA General Counsel, Barrister Salman Dako, announced the approval of a contract for the design, construction, and furnishing of an office complex for the Body of Benchers.
“This office complex will provide a befitting environment for the Body of Benchers to perform its statutory functions,” Barr. Dako said.
The project, which has a completion timeline of 10 months, will ensure the Body of Benchers has a functional and conducive workspace.
