The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reiterated the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deliver more development projects to communities that supported the administration during the recently concluded FCT Area Council elections.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, during a high-profile appreciation visit to Bwari Area Council, the Minister thanked residents for backing the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the local polls. The visit, described as a “thank you” engagement, brought together community leaders, political stakeholders, youth representatives, and traditional rulers.
Addressing the gathering, Wike conveyed President Tinubu’s personal appreciation to the people of Bwari for fulfilling what he described as a political promise. According to him, the President considers their support a significant contribution to the success of the administration’s candidates in the election.

“On behalf of Mr. President, I thank you for keeping your promise. The President asked me to tell you that your loyalty will not be taken for granted. He will fulfill his own commitment by ensuring more projects are delivered to your communities,” the Minister stated.
Wike emphasized that under the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda, governance is built on partnership. He explained that the government’s approach is rooted in mutual responsibility: citizens demonstrate support and trust, while the government responds with tangible development.
The Minister reminded residents that promises made earlier were already being translated into action. He specifically highlighted the ongoing Bwari–Kubwa road project, assuring the community that it would be completed within the year.
In addition, Wike directed the Council Chairman to compile and submit a fresh list of priority projects that reflect the immediate needs of Bwari residents. He explained that President Tinubu had given clear instructions for the FCT Administration to identify and implement people-focused projects in supportive communities.

“Mr. President has directed that we work closely with the Council to determine what additional interventions are required for Bwari. Development must be visible and impactful,” he said.
The Minister also pledged closer collaboration between the FCT Administration and the Chairman-elect to ensure youth-centered development initiatives are prioritized, particularly in infrastructure, empowerment, and community services.
During his remarks, Wike cautioned residents against what he described as “performative politics” by certain individuals seeking public sympathy. He criticized political actors who attempt to create a false image of grassroots connection through symbolic gestures rather than meaningful action.
According to him, true leadership should be measured by performance in office and concrete contributions to society, not staged displays designed to attract public attention.
“We must focus on results, not theatrics. Leadership is about delivering roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and opportunities—not temporary gestures meant to deceive the people,” he said.
The Minister also touched on the current representation of the FCT in the Senate, suggesting that there is a need for stronger alignment between elected representatives and the aspirations of residents. While he did not announce specific plans, he hinted at future political developments that could reshape the territory’s legislative representation.
His comments signal a possible strategic shift as political stakeholders begin to look ahead to future elections within the Federal Capital Territory.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon. John Gabaya, commended the Minister for maintaining close ties with the grassroots. He noted that ongoing infrastructure projects are already transforming the physical and economic landscape of the Council.
Gabaya assured the Minister that Bwari residents would continue to support President Tinubu’s administration, citing visible progress in road construction and urban renewal initiatives.

The traditional ruler of the area, Etsu Bwari, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Yaro, also expressed appreciation for what he described as significant development strides across the Council. He pledged the support of the traditional institution for ongoing government programs aimed at improving living standards.
Similarly, Chairman-elect Joshua Ishaku praised Wike’s leadership style, describing him as accessible and results-driven. He credited the Minister with accelerating infrastructure delivery in line with the President’s Renewed Hope vision and pledged that the incoming local administration would remain aligned with the federal government’s development agenda.
The FCT Administration concluded the engagement by reaffirming its commitment to equitable development across area councils, with particular attention to communities that demonstrate consistent partnership with the government.
With assurances of more projects on the way, Bwari residents can expect continued focus on infrastructure expansion, youth empowerment, and improved public services as the Tinubu administration deepens its footprint in the Federal Capital Territory.
