The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, commissioned a 5-kilometer temporary access road connecting Saburi 1 and 2 communities to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) and the old Keffi-Dei-Dei International Market road in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
At the ceremony, the Minister announced the Federal Government’s approval for reconstructing the Dei-Dei International Market road to Life Camp. He assured residents that the project would commence in February and be completed by the year’s end. “Mr. President has directed the reconstruction of this road to bring back the international market to its former glory. We will flag it off next month and return before year-end to commission it,” he stated.
Addressing Saburi residents, Barr. Wike emphasized the administration’s resolve to fulfill its promises. He remarked, “When we flagged off this project, I assured you it wouldn’t be abandoned, unlike the usual pattern. Today, we have kept our word.” He also noted the inclusion of streetlights in the project, given Saburi’s proximity to the city.
The Minister promised the AMAC Chairman, Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, that the requested Zabna-Kagini road project would be undertaken, praising his leadership and support for President Tinubu’s administration. Barr. Wike reiterated the government’s commitment to equitable development across Abuja, stating, “President Tinubu has directed that every part of Abuja, not just the city, must benefit from development. This is why every Area Council will have one road project in the FCT’s 2025 Statutory Budget.”
He appealed for patience and support from FCT residents, affirming the administration’s dedication to improving lives, including enhanced education infrastructure.
In their goodwill messages, the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on FCT Area Councils, Sen. David Jimkuta and Hon. Fred Agbedi, commended the Minister for his leadership. . Jimkuta praised President Tinubu’s choice of Barr. Wike as FCT Minister, while Hon. Agbedi highlighted the economic benefits of the Saburi access road for the Dei-Dei Market. He urged traders to reduce prices as a show of gratitude for the government’s efforts.
AMAC Chairman, Hon. Maikalangu, thanked the Minister for delivering the road on time, noting the profound impact on the community. He highlighted the Minister’s genuine concern for both urban and rural residents and invited him to commission other completed AMAC projects.
The Coordinator of the Satellite Town Development Department (STDD), Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, described the Saburi road as a beacon of hope for the communities, especially the youth. He praised the high quality of the project, thanking the Minister for prioritizing rural infrastructure.
