The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, conducted an extensive inspection tour of major infrastructure projects across Abuja on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress made and reiterated the government’s commitment to timely project completion and fair compensation for affected property owners.
During the tour, Barrister Wike visited the construction site of the access road linking Ring Road 1 to N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) and the internal roads within the Judges Quarters in Katampe District. He praised the contractors, including Julius Berger and CGC, for their dedication and efficiency, noting that the projects are on track to meet the May 2025 deadline.
“I’m impressed with the speed and quality of work by the contractors. Their commitment is evident, and I am confident that we will meet the agreed timelines,” the Minister stated. He also commended the progress at the Judges Quarters, highlighting the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal facilities as exemplary developments.
Barrister Wike acknowledged the cooperation of local communities, emphasizing their role in ensuring the smooth execution of the projects. He also addressed the issue of compensation for properties affected by the ongoing road constructions.
The Minister confirmed that compensation payments for structures impacted by the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) to Wasa District and the Life Camp to Dei-Dei road projects have been completed. Additionally, compensation for affected properties in Gishiri Village near the Judges Quarters is being processed, with funds already allocated.
“The Department of Resettlement and Compensation has confirmed that payments for OSEX and Life Camp to Dei-Dei projects are complete. For Gishiri, we are finalizing the process and expect to settle all claims by the end of the week,” he assured.
On waste management in satellite towns, Barrister Wike announced that the selection process for competent contractors is nearing completion. He emphasized the government’s dedication to improving waste management services and expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to deliver effective solutions.
“We are finalizing the selection of contractors for waste management services. Within the next week, we will identify those capable of delivering efficient and sustainable services,” he said.
The Minister’s inspection underscores the FCT Administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, community welfare, and environmental sustainability.
