Insecurity: AKH-TRACADA lauds Ghanaian President for reforms, integrity

An NGO, the Anti-Kidnapping, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse and Drug Abuse Initiative (AKH-TRACADA) has commended President John Mahama of Ghana for what it described as his humility, integrity, and selflessness in governance.

Primate Belonwu Ezeanyaeche, Executive Director and Founder of AKH-TRACADA, said this in a statement issued and signed on Friday in Abuja.

Ezeanyaeche also lauded the recent inauguration of the Police Governing Council by the president, describing it as a bold move towards reforming the country’s security and justice system.

He said that the president’s actions within a short period in office showed a clear commitment to institutional accountability and public welfare.

According to him, the newly inaugurated council has already stepped up actions to combat criminal cases.

“These include kidnapping, armed robbery and other offences, resulting in the arrest of suspects and ongoing investigations.

“Some of the successes chalked in major criminal cases were such as the rescue of the two women kidnapped in Nigeria.

“Others are strides made in the fight against robbery including the arrest of suspects in the murder of the momo merchants, as well as the arrest of suspects in the murder of five people at Asiyaw, the Ghana’s Eastern Region,”he added

Ezeanyaeche urged members of the Police Governing Council to discharge their responsibilities with courage, fairness and dedication to justice.

He also expressed optimism about the long-term impact of the reforms under Mahama’s administration, saying they could position Ghana as a strong competitor in the global economy.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. The council must act without fear or favour and be guided by the rule of law.

“We also believed that with the pace and method of reforms being implemented, Ghana is on course to achieve economic development and institutional stability in the next three to five years,” the statement said.

The NGO boss noted that AKH-TRACADA’s operations across Africa were focused on combating human trafficking, child abuse, kidnapping, illicit drug trafficking and abuse.

He said that the organisation also worked in partnership with law enforcement agencies, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and international bodies to strengthen response systems and protect the rights of vulnerable populations.

“Our work is centred on prevention, public sensitisation, victim rehabilitation, and institutional reform. We support African governments that demonstrate strong political will to address these issues,” he added.

Ezeanyaeche, however, urged African leaders to emulate the Ghanaian government’s commitment to public safety, national development and institutional renewal.
