The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally inaugurated its National Campaign Council for the upcoming Karim I State Constituency legislative bye-election in Taraba State, scheduled for August 16, 2025. The election, to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is a key political contest for the ruling party as it seeks to strengthen its grassroots presence in the North East region.
The unveiling of the council was announced in a joint statement signed by the APC Deputy National Women Leader, Hajiya Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim, and the National Vice Chairman, North East. The party described the council as a strategic move to ensure an effective, inclusive, and well-coordinated campaign effort that unites its national, zonal, and state leadership structures.
Strategic Importance of the Bye-Election
The bye-election follows the declaration of a vacancy in the Karim I State Constituency seat at the Taraba State House of Assembly. Political observers note that the election will be closely watched, given its potential impact on the regional political balance.
The APC leadership has emphasised that the newly formed council will work in close collaboration with the state chapter, local government officials, and grassroots networks to secure a decisive victory for the party.
Speaking on the development, Hajiya Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim stressed the importance of unity, strategic mobilisation, and strong community engagement.
“This council represents our readiness, organisation, and determination to connect with the people of Karim I. With our dedicated team and the guidance of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we are confident in delivering victory for our great party and ensuring responsive representation for the constituency,” she said.
The APC leadership has pledged to run an issue-based campaign that focuses on integrity, transparency, and development-oriented policies. Party officials say their message will present a credible alternative to the electorate — one committed to improving livelihoods, boosting local economic growth, and addressing pressing community needs.
The campaign strategy includes engaging with traditional leaders, youth groups, women’s organisations, and other key stakeholders. According to the party, these interactions will allow them to communicate their development plans while also listening to the needs and aspirations of the people of Karim I.
The APC has called on members, supporters, and the electorate to rally behind the party’s candidate and participate actively in the democratic process. The leadership has assured voters that the campaign will strictly adhere to the law and respect the rights of all contestants.
With campaign activities set to begin immediately, political attention is shifting towards Taraba State as momentum builds ahead of the August 16 polls. The outcome of the bye-election is expected to serve as an important indicator of political trends in the North East, especially as parties prepare for future state and national elections.
The APC remains confident that with a united front, strong grassroots mobilisation, and a vision rooted in responsive governance, victory in Karim I is well within reach.
