The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the construction of a major road project — the Transit Way N2 — which will connect Abuja’s Central Business District (CBD) with the Wuse District.
The project, awarded to Levante Construction Company Nigeria Limited, also includes the construction of two major bridges and is expected to significantly ease movement, reduce flooding, and boost economic activities in the nation’s capital.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Wike revealed that his decision to fast-track the project came after observing that private citizens, whom he described as “elder statesmen,” had taken the initiative to start making parts of the road motorable.
“During one of our inspection tours, I drove from the TY Danjuma Foundation side and saw the efforts of some elder statesmen who began opening the road. I commended them because it showed they truly care about the development of our people. But I also felt it should not be left entirely to them. That was why I directed the Executive Secretary of the FCDA to take over and extend the project to Wuse. Today, to the glory of God, we are here to officially flag off the road,” he said.
The Minister explained that the Transit Way N2 is one of several flagship projects planned for completion and commissioning during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third anniversary in office. He tasked the contractor to work diligently and meet the deadline, stressing that road networks are the backbone of every modern city.
“There can be no real development in any city without good road infrastructure. Road networks attract investment and lay the foundation for growth,” Wike emphasized.
He referenced the “Abuja City Walk” project by investors from Dubai as an example of how infrastructure projects attract both local and foreign investment.

While stressing the importance of road development, the Minister disclosed that education remains another central focus of the FCT Administration. He announced that 40 additional schools across the territory will undergo comprehensive rehabilitation, adding to the more than 70 schools already under upgrade, 45 of which have been completed.
“We are going to start another phase of rehabilitation, covering no fewer than 40 schools. No sector will be left behind. The only thing we know in our dictionary is to work, work, and work to the satisfaction of our people,” Wike declared.
Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration’s focus on service delivery remains strong despite challenges or distractions. He revealed that a series of project flag-offs and commissioning will continue until late October and into November 2025.
“These projects are vital not only for economic growth but also for improving the landscape and quality of life in the FCT,” the Minister said.
In her vote of thanks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for prioritizing Abuja’s infrastructure development. She hailed the Wuse–Central Area road project as another clear demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda in action.
She described Wike as the “driver and monitor” of these achievements and also praised the National Assembly for providing consistent support, collaboration, and legislative backing.
Presenting an overview, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, explained that the Transit Way N2 is part of the Abuja Master Plan’s integrated public transport system.
The system combines rail and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services to link the city center with sector hubs, developing corridors, and Satellite Towns — thereby reducing overdependence on private cars.
He highlighted that the project includes:
* Two river bridges connecting the Central Business District to Wuse.
* Flood control and erosion measures to address chronic flooding in the area.
* Solar-powered street lighting to improve security and sustainability.
* Roadside drains and channels to enhance durability and reduce environmental impact.
According to him, the road will significantly reduce travel time, improve traffic flow, and boost economic activities within the city. The construction phase itself is expected to generate hundreds of jobs.

On behalf of Levante Construction Company, Managing Director Mr. Elie Tannous expressed gratitude to the FCT Administration for entrusting the firm with the project. He assured stakeholders that the company would deliver a world-class road network within the stipulated timeframe and in line with international standards.
The Wuse–Central Area link road project is one of several infrastructure initiatives aimed at transforming Abuja under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu. Alongside road expansion and rehabilitation, the Administration is focusing on education, healthcare, and sustainable urban planning.
For residents, the project represents more than just a new road. It is expected to ease mobility between two of the busiest parts of the city, enhance business opportunities, and improve the overall urban experience of Nigeria’s capital.
