The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has once again emphasised the importance of tax compliance among residents, stressing that prompt payment of taxes remains vital to sustaining the administration’s ambitious infrastructure and social development programs.
Speaking during the flag-off of the Mohammed Isa Road extension project in Asokoro District, Abuja, on Monday, 6 October 2025, the Minister stated that the FCT Administration’s ongoing transformation is largely funded through tax revenue.
He urged residents to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by fulfilling their civic responsibility, noting that public infrastructure depends directly on available resources.
“Pay what you owe. If soup tastes good, it’s because money made it possible. Roads, drainage systems, and other projects cannot exist without funding. So, please pay your taxes so we can deliver more,” Wike stated.
Wike revealed that even some of the administration’s vocal critics have begun to recognise the positive changes in the FCT, particularly in infrastructure. He disclosed that the Asokoro road project began after one of such critics personally appealed for similar development within the area.
“One of the strongest critics of President Tinubu came to me and said, ‘You have done a lot in other districts; what about Asokoro extension?’ That was how we decided to begin this road,” the Minister said.

He added that the FCT’s progress mirrors the President’s leadership vision.
“You can’t say FCT is working and the President is not. We are his agents, carrying out his directives. His goal is to make Abuja a world-class city—and that’s exactly what we are doing.”
According to the Minister, the Asokoro project marks the tenth consecutive day of road and water project flag-offs across the FCT.
He said the Mohammed Isa Road extension will enhance city connectivity, create jobs, and improve security.
“Once completed, this area will have quality roads, drainage, and streetlights. Beyond infrastructure, these projects create employment for our youths,” he said.
He assured residents that the FCTA will maintain its aggressive development pace across all sectors, including education, health, and transport
Barr. Wike announced that after completing over 70 school rehabilitation projects,
the administration will soon begin another 40 school upgrades, He also revealed that the capital budget for the health sector is set for full implementation, reaffirming that no sector will be left behind.
“We have touched roads, transport, and education. Now, health is next. Every sector will feel the impact. All we ask is patience and continued support,” he said
In her remarks, Nancy Nathan, Acting Head of FCTA Civil Service, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his leadership and consistency in driving development. She described the Asokoro road as a key project that will foster social and economic growth, reduce congestion, and improve connectivity between districts.
Giving a technical overview, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) said the project was awarded to Messrs Global Spectrum Energy Services Limited with a 14-month completion period
He explained that the project covers 4 kilometers of modern road infrastructure, including:
* Drainage systems
* Water and sewer networks
* Street lighting and power supply
* Telecommunication ducts

Dauda emphasized that the new access road will enhance interconnectivity, boost security, and open up Asokoro for further investment.
Engr. Stanley Onyemeke, representing Global Spectrum PLC, thanked the FCTA for the opportunity and assured the Minister of timely and high-quality delivery in line with international standards.
