In a dramatic political development ahead of the February 21, 2026 Area Councils election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate in Bwari Area Council, Julius Adamu, has stepped down from the race and declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Joshua Ishaku Musa.
The announcement was made barely 72 hours to the election, sending shockwaves across the political landscape in Bwari Area Council. Addressing party supporters and stakeholders during a brief declaration, Adamu said his decision was taken after wide consultations and in the interest of unity, development, and stability in the council.
He urged his supporters and followers within the PDP structure to rally behind the APC candidate and vote massively for Joshua Ishaku Musa in the forthcoming polls. According to him, the priority at this time is to ensure purposeful leadership that will advance the welfare of residents and strengthen grassroots governance.
The event was attended by several political stakeholders from both major parties, including the incumbent Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon. Gabaya, alongside party leaders, supporters, and community representatives.
In his remarks, Chairman Gabaya described the development as a demonstration of political maturity and commitment to the collective interest of the people of Bwari. He commended Julius Adamu for what he termed a “bold and selfless decision,” noting that such actions promote unity and peaceful democratic participation.
Gabaya emphasized that the coming election should not be seen as a contest of individuals alone but as an opportunity to choose leadership capable of delivering tangible development across wards and communities. He called on residents to maintain peace before, during, and after the election.
Other stakeholders present at the declaration also welcomed the move, stating that cooperation across party lines reflects a shared vision for progress in Bwari. They encouraged voters to participate actively and responsibly in the electoral process.
Supporters at the gathering expressed optimism that the alignment would strengthen political collaboration and improve chances of effective governance after the election. Many described the decision as a turning point that could shape the outcome of the chairmanship contest.
With campaigns entering their final phase, political observers say the development may significantly influence voting patterns across the council. As preparations intensify, attention is now focused on how parties mobilize supporters ahead of the crucial February 21 polls in Bwari Area Council and across the FCT.
