The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday received the newly elected and returning Chairmen of the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory following the recently concluded council elections.
The Chairmen visited the Minister at his office in Area 11, Garki, where they presented their Certificates of Return after being officially declared winners in their respective councils.
During the meeting, the Minister congratulated the council leaders on their electoral victories and urged them to remain focused on delivering effective governance and development at the grassroots level. He emphasised the importance of cooperation between the FCT Administration and the Area Councils to accelerate infrastructure development and improve residents’ living conditions across the territory.
Wike assured the Chairmen that the FCT Administration would work closely with them, irrespective of their political affiliations. According to him, the development of the Federal Capital Territory requires unity of purpose and collective commitment from all levels of government.
The Minister also reminded the council leaders that the support they received from the electorate carries a responsibility to serve the people diligently. He encouraged them to prioritise projects and policies that will positively impact communities within their councils.
Speaking further, the Minister stressed the importance of maintaining strong collaboration with the Federal Government, noting that sustained support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would help ensure continued development initiatives across the FCT.
The Area Council Chairmen, in their remarks, expressed appreciation to the Minister for his leadership and developmental efforts in the territory. They also pledged their readiness to partner with the FCT Administration in advancing policies and projects that will improve infrastructure, security, and economic opportunities for residents.
The meeting marked the first official engagement between the Minister and the newly elected council leaders after the Area Council elections, which saw residents across the six councils vote for their preferred candidates in a largely peaceful exercise.
Observers say the collaboration between the FCT Administration and Area Council leadership is expected to play a key role in strengthening grassroots governance and accelerating development across communities in the nation’s capital.
