The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has commended security agencies operating in the nation’s capital for their continued efforts to maintain safety and stability across Abuja.
The Minister gave the commendation on Monday, March 16, 2026, during an inspection tour of key infrastructure projects scheduled for commissioning later this year. According to him, the security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory have remained proactive in preventing crime and ensuring that residents go about their daily activities in a safe environment.
Wike noted that, like other major cities around the world, Abuja occasionally faces security challenges such as kidnapping and other urban crimes. However, he emphasised that security personnel have been working diligently to curb such threats and protect residents.
The Minister highlighted that several criminal attempts have been successfully foiled by security operatives, though many of these efforts do not always receive public attention. He pointed to the recent rescue of kidnapping victims in the Bwari Area Council as evidence of the dedication and efficiency of the security agencies.
According to Wike, crime exists in every major urban centre globally, and Abuja is no exception. What matters most, he said, is the commitment of security forces to confront criminal activities and maintain peace in the city.

He urged the media and the public to acknowledge the successes of security agencies rather than focusing solely on isolated crime incidents. The Minister explained that while one criminal act may receive widespread publicity, many other potential crimes are prevented daily through intelligence and security operations.
The FCT Minister, therefore, called on residents to continue supporting security agencies by cooperating with them and providing useful information that could help maintain law and order within communities.
Beyond security matters, the Minister also inspected several strategic road projects currently under construction across Abuja. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects, which are expected to be commissioned as part of activities marking the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Among the projects inspected were the access roads leading to the Renewed Hope Estates in Karsana, the N16 dual carriageway linking Jahi and Gwarimpa, and the ongoing development of Highway 105 connecting the Airport Expressway to Kuje Area Council. The Minister also visited the dualization project along the Kuje–Gwagwalada road corridor.
Wike explained that these road networks are part of the broader effort by the FCT Administration to improve connectivity between satellite towns and the city centre. According to him, once completed, the roads will significantly reduce travel time for commuters and open new economic opportunities for residents living outside Abuja’s central districts.
He noted that the Highway 105 project, in particular, would provide a smoother transportation link for residents who commute daily between Kuje and the city centre for work and business.
The Minister also commended the contractors handling the various projects for maintaining high construction standards and adhering to agreed timelines.

During the inspection tour, Wike also addressed issues related to land use and urban planning in Abuja. He visited a location in Guzape District where a designated green area was allegedly being converted illegally into a residential estate.
After assessing the situation, the Minister ordered the immediate demolition of the structures on the site. He explained that the land had originally been allocated as a green area within the city’s master plan and could not be used for private housing development.
Wike warned that the FCT Administration would not tolerate any violation of the Abuja Master Plan or attempts by developers to manipulate land allocations for unauthorised projects. He also cautioned civil servants and property developers against engaging in illegal land transactions or altering approved land use plans.
According to the Minister, preserving the Abuja Master Plan remains a top priority for the administration to ensure that the city maintains its planned structure and environmental balance.

He further emphasised that the government would not allow legal delays or other tactics to obstruct enforcement actions when violations occur.
The inspection tour forms part of the FCT Administration’s ongoing monitoring of infrastructure projects aimed at improving transportation networks, strengthening urban planning regulations, and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents in the capital city.
