The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed personnel and equipment to ensure a smooth conduct of the Edo State gubernatorial elections, scheduled for 21 September.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement by the corps’ commissioner for public education, Deputy Corps Marshal, Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Friday in Abuja.
Mohammed said the operation was part of efforts to ensure that the election went ahead as planned by the electoral authorities.
He directed FRSC officials to work with other security agencies to enforce restrictions on the movement of vehicles.
He also tasked the personnel with clearing road obstacles, carrying out rescue operations in emergency situations and maintaining order at polling stations.
“Adequate resources, including the deployment of vehicles, trailers and ambulances, have been mobilized to reinforce the enforcement of restrictions throughout the electoral process,” Mohammed said.
The FRSC boss urged the deployed personnel to display professionalism and avoid any action that may violate the rights of voters.
He wished voters a peaceful, free and fair election.
