Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, announced the imminent appointment of nine Permanent Secretaries to spearhead the Mandate Secretariats of the FCT Administration. The revelation came during the Minister’s inaugural meeting with the Directors of the FCTA and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) in Abuja on Monday, March 4th, 2024.
The Minister underscored the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission as a pivotal initiative aimed at streamlining administrative processes within the FCT. He emphasized that appointing Permanent Secretaries, a Head of Service, and the commission’s Chairman and Members would herald a new era of governance in line with the nation’s commitment to administrative excellence.

Reflecting on the arduous journey towards instituting the FCT Civil Service Commission, Barrister Wike acknowledged the challenges encountered during its implementation. Despite facing opposition, the Minister reiterated the government’s unwavering determination to uphold the rule of law and enforce institutional reforms.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President is to do things right, and that was why the President took that step to implement the 2018 law regarding establishing the Civil Service of the FCT,” stated Barrister Wike, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to institutional integrity and adherence to due process.
Furthermore, the Minister pledged to uphold the principles of equity and inclusivity in the selection process for Permanent Secretaries, ensuring geographical representation across the nation’s geopolitical zones by the Federal Character Principle. In addition to organizational restructuring, the Minister highlighted the pivotal role of financial autonomy in facilitating infrastructural development within the FCT. He commended the withdrawal of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account, citing it as a catalyst for accelerating progress and unlocking new opportunities for growth and development.

Looking ahead, Barrister Wike reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to showcasing tangible achievements and delivering on the promises of President Bola Tinubu by May of the current year. He urged patience and resilience amid ongoing socio-economic reforms, acknowledging the inherent complexities of effecting transformative change in a diverse and dynamic society.
The meeting was attended by key dignitaries including the Honorable Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmed, and the Acting Permanent Secretary of FCTA, Mr. Samuel Atang, underscored the collaborative efforts aimed at revitalizing governance structures and advancing the collective aspirations of the Nigerian people.
