The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, officially launched the construction of the 15.4-kilometer Pai-Gomani road in the Kwali Area Council. This critical infrastructure project is expected to improve transportation, support local agriculture, and enhance food security in the FCT.
In his remarks at the event, Barr. Wike emphasized that the road construction aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure development in the FCT’s Area Councils. “The President’s agenda focuses on bringing infrastructure to every part of the FCT, including rural communities. This project will open up farmland access in Kwali, contributing to the region’s agricultural productivity and food security,” Wike stated.
The Minister further highlighted the FCT Administration’s commitment to delivering the “dividends of democracy” as envisioned under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding, “The government under President Tinubu is committed to ensuring that everyone benefits from and participates in these democratic dividends.”
Wike encouraged residents to trust the government’s long-term commitment, saying, “Mr. President has promised, ‘Give me time, be patient, and we’ll reach everyone.’ The impact of this administration will be felt in all Area Councils, ensuring no community is left behind.”
Addressing concerns about his role as FCT Minister, Wike clarified his mission, stating, “I did not take up this position to sell land. I am here to support Mr. President by prioritizing infrastructure across both urban and rural areas in the FCT.” He emphasized that infrastructure improvements remain the Administration’s top concern, whether in the heart of Abuja or the remote areas of Kwali.
He called on the public to support these efforts across party lines, stressing the significance of the project for all residents. “Whether you are in the PDP, APC, or belong to no party at all, everyone will benefit from this road,” Wike remarked. “This is a vital infrastructure project, and we are committed to monitoring it to ensure the contractor meets the expected standards.”
Wike praised Kwali Area Council officials, especially the Council Chairman, for their dedication to serving the community, and thanked local traditional rulers for their ongoing support of the FCT Administration’s initiatives.
**Calls for Timely Completion and Legislative Support**
The Minister expressed disappointment over the delayed awarding of a contract for the construction of Road A2, which would connect Pai to the Abuja-Lokoja expressway. Recognizing this road as an essential link for the community, Wike pledged to present a request to the National Assembly to designate the road as an emergency project and secure funding for its construction.
He assured the contractor of consistent project funding and urged timely completion, warning FCTA officials against any unnecessary delays in payment processing that could disrupt the project.
The flag-off event also featured goodwill messages from key government figures. Senator David Jimkuta, Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Minister Wike for their commitment to infrastructure in the FCT’s rural areas. Jimkuta reaffirmed the National Assembly’s support for the FCT Administration, pledging ongoing legislative backing for such essential projects.
Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya, the member representing Abuja South in the House of Representatives, commended the series of projects launched under the current administration, noting that they have renewed residents’ confidence in government efforts. “The projects being flagged off in the FCT have instilled a sense of hope and optimism in the people, particularly those in rural communities,” he said. Hon. Ajiya emphasized that the Pai-Gomani road would benefit local farmers by providing them with improved transportation, facilitate quicker response to security issues, and solidify the community’s support for FCT development initiatives.
**Local Leaders Praise Minister’s Efforts and Encourage Further Engagement**
Hon. Danladi Chiya, Chairman of Kwali Area Council, expressed gratitude on behalf of the council leaders and residents for the new road project. “The Area Council Chairmen are collectively committed to advancing rural infrastructure, and we thank the Minister for prioritizing this important road,” Chiya said. He encouraged the Minister to continue visiting Area Councils to see firsthand the progress of ongoing projects and their impact on local communities.
The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkifilu, outlined the project’s scope and objectives. The Pai-Gomani road, spanning 15.4 kilometers, is expected to take 12 months to complete. According to Zulkifilu, the road will not only connect previously isolated communities but will also serve as a symbol of shared prosperity and foster unity across the region.
“The completion of this road will mark a significant milestone in connecting communities and boosting economic activities, especially in the agricultural sector,” he stated. “We thank the Minister for his visionary approach to FCT development and his unwavering dedication to infrastructure that benefits all residents.”
