An NGO, Anti-Kidnapping, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse and Drug Abuse initiative (AKH-TRACADA) has condemned the recent attacks on Nigerian businesses in Mozambique and called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to intervene.
Belonwu Ezeanyaeche, founder and CEO of the group, made this call in a statement he issued in Abuja on Monday.
Ezeanyaeche also appealed to the Federal Government to protect the interests of Nigerians living in the country and other countries that may face the same challenge.
He said the appeal became necessary following the recent outbreak of political unrest in Mozambique, which resulted in the destruction and looting of several Nigerian businesses.
He described the attacks as “unprovoked and unjustifiable” and called on the federal government to take immediate action to protect Nigerians living in Mozambique.
According to him, the riots gave some criminal elements the opportunity to attack and loot Nigerian businesses, although the total value of the stolen items was yet to be determined.
“We know that this uprising has been going on for two months, but it has taken on a different dimension because we have received information about another serious uprising that will take place from Tuesday, December 3rd to Friday, December 6th. .
“We have learned that after the planned uprising in Mozambique, there will be another uprising and that Nigerian companies are in the crosshairs.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria must take urgent action to remedy the situation.
“We cannot continue to watch them attack our citizens and destroy their businesses.
“We call on the Federal Government to take immediate action to protect the interests of Nigerians living abroad.
“We also call on governments at all levels to intervene and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice,” he said.
Ezeanyaeche also stressed that the government must take measures to protect businesses and interests of Nigerians living abroad, especially in countries where they are vulnerable to attacks and harassment.
“The organization also calls on the United Nations and other international organizations to intervene in this case and ensure that justice prevails,” he said.
Nigerians and other Africans have widely condemned the attacks on Nigerian businesses in Mozambique.
These people called on the Mozambican government to take measures to protect the rights and interests of foreigners living in the country.
