The new Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, says he will review the operational strategy of the force across the country.
Mohammed said this in his maiden speech in Abuja on Wednesday, thanking God and President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve.
He said a committee would be set up to review the FRSC’s operational strategies to ensure they reflect current realities.
He also promised to ensure training and retraining of personnel to meet realistic expectations, noting that the Corps will ensure training facilities are active year-round.
“We will seek partnerships with sister and relevant agencies and seek strengthened partnerships with international agencies.
“These agencies include, among others, the United Nations (UN), the World Bank, and the World Health Organization (WHO), while the Corps will also increase cooperation with special marshals.”
The Corps Marshal also promised to establish a technical advisory unit to work with the Corps Information Technology Office (CITO) to improve operations.
“Our operations continue to be the basis of our activities and that is why the first focus is the realignment and repositioning of our operations through digital transformation.
“Therefore, we have already created a technical advisory unit that works with the core information technology situation,” he said.
Mohammed promised to improve employee welfare, adding that the qualification structure and career progression would be harmonized.
“We will also ensure that we review the education policy of the FRSC by increasing the number of places for higher studies,” he said.
The FRSC chief also promised to create a favorable work environment by providing additional buses for staff and creating a strategic business unit.
This, he explained, was aimed at increasing the FRSC’s readiness to invest, revitalizing sports and leisure activities, and encouraging monthly walking and running exercises.
“I am confident that together we can overcome every challenge that comes our way.
“With your continued support and dedication, I believe the FRSC will achieve even greater achievements, in line with the current government’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“We will work as a team with determination and commitment to make our roads safer for everyone,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, on Monday conferred a new rank on the new Corps Marshal.
Akume also encouraged him to work to reduce traffic accidents.
