Anambra Police Intensifies Security Preparations Ahead of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s Visit

The Anambra State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive security assessment of strategic locations across the state ahead of the planned visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Conducted in collaboration with other security and safety agencies, the exercise is part of measures designed to ensure adequate security, effective coordination, and a peaceful environment throughout the First Lady’s visit.

According to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed senior operational commanders across the state to begin assessing security arrangements in their respective areas immediately.

The directive covers Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers, who have been instructed to conduct detailed assessments of their Areas of Responsibility and address any security gaps identified during the exercise.

The command described the assessment as the first phase of its preparations and said it forms part of an intelligence-led and proactive approach to public security.

Rather than waiting for security concerns to emerge during the visit, the police said the exercise is intended to identify potential vulnerabilities in advance, evaluate existing arrangements and strengthen areas where additional measures may be required.

Strategic locations associated with the visit are expected to receive particular attention as security personnel work to ensure that movement and activities connected with the programme are properly coordinated.

The approach reflects the growing importance of advance security planning for high-profile public events, particularly those involving senior government officials and large gatherings.

Such preparations typically require cooperation among multiple agencies because security responsibilities extend beyond conventional policing. Traffic management, emergency response, crowd control, intelligence gathering and protection of public infrastructure can all become important components of an effective security plan.

The Anambra Police Command said it is working closely with sister security and safety agencies as preparations continue.

Commissioner of Police Nnanna Oji Ama assured residents that the command would make every effort to provide a secure, orderly and incident-free environment throughout the period of the First Lady’s visit.

The emphasis on inter-agency cooperation matters because major official visits often involve multiple security formations operating in the same locations. Effective communication and coordination can help prevent confusion, close operational gaps and ensure that security personnel respond quickly to emerging situations.

For residents, businesses and motorists, however, increased security activity can also mean temporary restrictions, traffic changes or additional checks around designated locations.

The police therefore urged members of the public to cooperate with security personnel and comply with lawful instructions during the visit.

The command specifically appealed to residents, motorists, business owners, community leaders and other stakeholders to support the security arrangements.

Members of the public were encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or activities that could threaten public safety.

The appeal highlights the role of community participation in modern security management. While security agencies are responsible for protecting lives and property, residents and other stakeholders can provide valuable information about unusual activities or developments within their communities.

Prompt reporting can allow security personnel to assess potential threats before they escalate.

At the same time, public cooperation with lawful security directives can reduce unnecessary disruption during the official visit and enable security officers to perform their responsibilities more effectively.

The First Lady’s visit comes against the backdrop of continuing efforts by security agencies across Nigeria to strengthen preventive security measures around major public events.

Advance security assessments are particularly important where official programmes involve multiple locations, large gatherings or significant movement of people.

By identifying possible vulnerabilities ahead of time, security agencies can adjust personnel deployment, access control, and emergency response arrangements.

The Anambra Command’s decision to begin its preparations early therefore reflects an emphasis on prevention rather than reaction.

However, maintaining public confidence will also require security operations to remain professional and proportionate. While heightened security is necessary to protect dignitaries and members of the public, residents and businesses will also expect arrangements to minimise avoidable disruption to normal activities.

The operation’s success will ultimately depend on effective coordination between security agencies and public cooperation.

The Commissioner of Police has assured Anambra residents that the command remains committed to maintaining peace and public safety before, during and after the First Lady’s visit.

The ongoing assessment is expected to provide security commanders with an opportunity to identify weaknesses and strengthen existing arrangements ahead of the programme.

For residents, the police message is straightforward: remain alert, cooperate with authorised security personnel and report concerns through appropriate channels.

As preparations continue, collaboration between the police, other security agencies, and the communities they serve will remain central to ensuring the visit takes place in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere.

The Anambra Police Command has urged residents to remain calm while supporting legitimate security measures, stressing that collective vigilance and responsible public cooperation are key to effective security management.
