The winningteamtv gathered that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially inaugurated the Wuye Cross on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, which connects Wuye and Wuse districts in the Federal Capital, FCC.
The commissioning ceremony was held today, May 30, 2024, at the newly constructed intersection/connecting bridge in Wuye District, as part of events commemorating the president’s first birthday.
During the exercise, President Tinubu highlighted the importance of infrastructure development for economic progress and improving the well-being of FCT residents and other Nigerians.
He also stressed that the focus of his administration is on people-centric policies, adding that the delivery of critical infrastructure in the FCT is a fulfillment of promises made to Nigerians.
He then thanked the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, for the good work in the FCT and the completion of the project, stating that the completion of the technical infrastructure will lead to improved traffic flow in Wuye and neighboring FCC districts.
He said: “Completing this project brings the government closer to our people and makes people central to our development, which is how democracy should work.
Our determination to succeed and bring happiness to the teeming population, bring prosperity and values of immense proportions to our people is the government’s aim and we thank you for making a dream come true.”
In his speech, the FCT Minister, Lawyer Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, explained that upon assuming office, the current FCT administration identified and prioritized the delivery of Wuye District infrastructure and the completion of other ongoing projects to improve the quality of life of FCT residents.
Bar. Wike explained that the contract to provide infrastructure to Wuye District was awarded in 2009 for 39 billion naira and later reduced to 75 billion naira. He regretted that the project remained unfinished for a long time.
The Minister took the opportunity to thank the Chairmen of the FCT Senate and Chamber Committees, the Director-General, the Debt Management Office, and the Presidents of the Territorial Council for supporting the administration’s efforts in developing the Territory.
He also appreciated the support received by the FCT administration from President Tinubu, highlighting that the exit of the FCTA from the Treasury Single Account was one of the key factors that also contributed to the completion of ongoing projects in the FCT.
He said: “We will continue to value you and I know people will be delighted with one of the projects you commissioned – the Southern Parkway. I know that everyone who passes through this area knows that they did good things for the FCT and that our departure from the TSA made that very possible. All of these projects wouldn’t have been possible if you hadn’t gotten us out of TSA.”
FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud also thanked the President for his support in improving the city’s infrastructure, which she said will benefit future generations.
Dr. Mahmoud also thanked everyone involved in providing technical infrastructure in Wuye district, highlighting that their dedication and hard work contributed significantly to the growth and development of the FCT.
FCDA Executive Secretary Eng. Shehu Hadi Ahmad said the completion of the Wuye Link bridge will ease the chaotic traffic situation around the Julius Berger roundabout and reduce the number of injuries and deaths on the link between Wuse and Wuye and other neighboring districts.
He also revealed that pedestrian walkways have also been constructed at the intersection to improve traffic between Wuse and Wuye districts.
