The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Shehu Mohammed says the Corps is on track to meet global best practices in road safety.
Mohammed said this at the one-day retreat organised for Commanding officers with the theme “Repositioning FRSC for Enhanced Service Delivery” on Monday in Abuja.
The FRSC boss said the retreat was organized as part of the Corps’ efforts to improve road safety in Nigeria and reduce the incidence of road accidents.
He said the retreat was in line with the FRSC’s mandate to prevent road accidents, remove obstacles and educate road users on safe driving practices.
He also said the Corps was working to strengthen its capacity and improve the skills of its personnel to be able to discharge their duties effectively.
“By developing its professionalism, the FRSC aims to reduce road accidents, save lives and promote a safe and efficient transportation system in Nigeria,” he said.
According to him, we are here to train commanders because we believe that training and educating personnel is the hallmark of any organization that wants to move forward.
“We are here to assess our skills gaps and create more opportunities for improvement.
“We also believe that this training will build our resilience for the sustainability of our system to ensure that road accidents are reduced to a minimum.”
Mohammed assured road users and the Nigerian motoring public of the Corps’ determination to continuously discharge its mandate effectively and efficiently.
He said, “We will also contribute to President Bola Tinubu’s transformation agenda by creating a safe motoring environment for the public.”
“This is to help them navigate and conduct our legal activities without traffic violations.”
Speaking: Prof. Sunday Ochoche, a resource expert, urged the commanding officers to adopt ethical leadership and come up with new ideas for effective service delivery.
Ochoche stressed that ethics is essential to public service, explaining that ethical leadership helps control scandals in public organizations.
The Don, who spoke on command leadership at the FRSC, stressed that training is critical for any good organization.
He advised the commanders to be role models, be open and approachable while promoting a positive culture and vision.
“As commanders, you must differentiate between mistakes and crimes and deal with them differently.
“Avoid nepotism and criticism in your command to ensure good outcome,” he said.
In response, the participants who spoke on behalf of the commanding officers assured the Corps Marshal and the FRSC leadership of their support and commitment.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Prof. Sunday Ochoche is the Managing Director of Aija Consult and a Visiting Professor at the Department of Political Science and Defence Studies, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna State.
