The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the creation of a Mandatory Secretariat for Youth Affairs in the FCT. This announcement was made during an interactive engagement with residents of the Bwari and Abuja Municipal Council (AMAC) as part of ongoing peacebuilding efforts in the FCT in light of the planned nationwide protests.
During the Town Hall meeting, which included zonal council chairmen and heads of various security agencies in the FCT, Minister highlighted his earlier promise to present the youth secretariat’s request to the president, who has now given his approval.
He said: “On Saturday, I assured the people of AMAC that their request for the youth secretariat would be approved by the president. Last night, I met with President Tinubu and he approved the creation of a Mandatory Secretariat for Youth Affairs. »
Responding to concerns about injustice and marginalization, Lawyer Wike promised to address these issues to ensure that all residents feel included and appreciate their civilized approach to airing their grievances.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to resolving the country’s economic challenges and urged residents of the FCT to exercise patience and understanding.
Honorable Ezekiel Dalhatu, representing the Youth Stakeholders Forum and the coalition of all youth groups in the FCT, spoke on behalf of the youth, declaring his decision to withdraw from the protests in favor of dialogue with the government. He commended the FCT Minister’s efforts to engage residents at the local level and pledge to include youths in decision-making processes.
Chairman of the Bwari Regional Council, Hon John Gabaya, echoed the youths’ preference for dialogue over protests and expressed the community’s support for the FCT minister.
As a token of appreciation, the youths and other stakeholders presented Lawyer Wike with a life-size portrait of him.
On Sunday, 28th July 2024, the FCT Minister held another public meeting with residents of Abuja South constituency where residents of Kwali, Abaji and Gwagwalada regional councils also pledged to consolidate peace and chose not to participate in planned national events.
