With Nigeria’s 2027 general elections drawing closer and political activities gaining momentum, Dr. Babatunde Kayode has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), April 30, 2026.
Kayode formally picked up his nomination form, signaling his entry into the race at a time when political stakeholders say the window is narrowing for aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of party primaries.
The development comes as parties intensify internal processes and consultations, with analysts noting that early declarations could shape alliances and influence voter engagement in key constituencies.
Speaking on his decision, Kayode described his candidacy as a continuation of his long-standing commitment to public service, community development and inclusive leadership.
“This step reflects my dedication to serving the people and contributing to a stronger, more responsive system of representation,” he said.
Kayode, a member of the National Institute (mni), emphasized the need for leadership that prioritizes competence, accountability and sustainable development. He said his campaign would focus on addressing the needs of diverse groups within the constituency, including youths, women and vulnerable populations.
He noted that unemployment, access to quality education, infrastructure development and security remain critical concerns for residents of AMAC/Bwari, adding that his ambition is to offer practical solutions through legislative action and community engagement.
Political observers say the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency remains a strategic area within the Federal Capital Territory, with growing population demands and increasing expectations for effective representation at the national level.
Kayode’s declaration has begun to generate reactions among party supporters and constituents, many of whom see the move as part of a broader effort to reposition leadership within the constituency ahead of 2027.
Supporters describe his entry into the race as timely, pointing to his experience and perceived capacity to bridge gaps between government policies and grassroots needs.
As political activities intensify, attention is expected to shift toward party primaries, where aspirants will compete for tickets ahead of the general elections. Within the APC, internal consultations and alignments are already underway, with party leaders urging aspirants to engage stakeholders and build consensus.
Kayode called for unity among party members and constituents, stressing the importance of collective action in achieving development goals.
“This journey is not about one individual but about the shared aspirations of our people. Together, we can build a constituency that reflects our collective hopes and potential,” he said.
He also urged residents to remain actively involved in the political process, noting that inclusive participation is key to strengthening democracy and ensuring responsive governance.
With the countdown to the 2027 elections underway, Kayode’s declaration marks an early step in what is expected to be a competitive race for representation in AMAC/Bwari, as aspirants position themselves to secure party nominations and voter support.
